Looking for best price for VRT for a Charity Rally car

    Hi All

Myself and a Friend are taking part in the Mongol Rally. Its is a Charity Car Rally which starts in England and ends in Mongolia. Its about 10,000 miles and we can only take small cars. The idea being more adventure, with break downs etc. We bought a NI Reg car about 3 monthes ago and where hoping that VRT would not be needed, but now it looks like this is a must. Its crap because the car will only be here in Ireland for another 3 monthes and then it will be donated to the Charity along with everything else we've rasied.

We are looking to get the lowest price for this and we were wondering if anyone could help? Please! This Rally is costing us a fortune (about 3000 each) and if anyone has any suggestions on how to go about this please let us know.

I did up a quote on a VRT calculator and it came in at 1147 when we only paid 750 for the car.

    Its a Dathatsu Terios 2000
1.3L, with 65000 on the clock

Our team website for the Rally is www.mongolrally.ie and we live in Wexford and we are raising money for the Christina Noble Childrens Foundation and the Local Wexford RNLI.

Please Please any help would be much appreciated.

Someone's been on here in the last couple of months wondering about VRT for the Mongol Rally as well.

Much as I'm opposed to cheating VRT, it seems the most sensible option given that you're basically exporting the car not long after. If you need to have it taxed and tested, I'd suggest finding someone in the North who might be sympathetic (maybe someone in the trade).

    Why must it be VRT'ed?

As said above, find someone up the North/UK who may sympathise and have it MOT'ed / Taxed (I'm presuming this is your problem, car must have NCT/MOT and tax to compete?) - Quinn have no problem insuring a foreign reg car

    Don't see the problem really?

Would "Barry the family man" not take it back and tell the police it's off the road? When the time comes do what you have to do to it, drive to Belfast and take the ferry from there.

Either hide it in the garage and get your ass down to Wexford harbour as quick as you can!:D
