Is there a ball park on the salary?

I'm not the manager or HR person, so I don't know what it would be, but I know the company definitely aren't scabs!

    Bump.

if i wasnt working already i'd apply for this

We've gotten hardly any CVs on this one.

It would also suit an automation engineer who doesn't mind doing manual testing. It might also suit someone in tech support who has good technical skills and a genuine interest in computers, and has a bit of a 'hacker' mentality.

Link was gone. What does the company do? Would it suit a 1.1 graduate electronic and computer engineer with 5 months QA experience in APC(placement)? Or more senior of a role?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

Oops, job had gone offline. It's back now.

5 months experience is too low I reckon, but apply for it anyway.

Yeah looking at that you would need a couple of years... and I did mostly localisation anyway. :)

QA is really a female occupation. What's the odds that most of the QA team are female?

Hah what? No it's not a female occupation!

    The team is 50/50 male/female.

Probably managed by a woman too. Apparently QA is like a retirement home for male programmers. What's the odds on the development team having less than 10% female developers?

Why does the job not show up on the sage website.

No, you're totally wrong. QA and programming are totally different jobs, requiring different skills.

The reason development generally has few women employees is because most women don't want to be developers.

I guess they don't all their job adverts on their website.

QA appeals to women because they like to nag and give out to the poor schmucks doing the actual work.
You know the old saying... Those who can code, those who can't, QA! And those who really can't just do automation;)

I have worked in software for over 10 years and I can say with certainty those who can't code do code and that is why they need QA!
Developers are some of the worst people to ever get involved in the user design process as they often can't distinguish between what they personally know and what the applications has to achieve. Never met a QA person who has coded for any length of time.

Just different skill sets not worth saying who is better but they rely on each other heavily.

Yep. Programmers are often help in high esteem, but often they are useless.

Still looking for CVs on this one btw...

Out of interest is Sage an agile company doing things like scrum/xp or waterfall?

Sage is made up of dozens (hundreds?) of small companies, and they all pretty much do things their own way.

One of the Sage teams in Dublin uses an agile approach, whereas others use waterfall...

We tried agile for a while but it doesn't really suit our product, so we moved back to waterfall.

So that explains the extra QA positions now :-)

It's nowhere near as rigid or inflexible as many waterfall type projects are. While it's not a pure iterative approach, requirements are added as the project is going.

Are you talking about Agile in general compared to Waterfall or are you referring to this this companies process model?

This company's implementation. I should have quoted the post above to give my comment context.

Can I ask what the frequency of the releases are in general?

I would like to get an idea on the number of changes that occur between releases (very roughly how significant changes are to the product) and on what timeframe they are expected to be delivered.

I don't know how much of that information is, or should be, in the public domain so I'd rather not say anything as I'm not representing the company here.
