I cant believe that there is no ETF for the Baltic Dry Index, http://www.investmenttools.com/images/wfut/crb/bdi_log.gif
surely its a matter of time. Has anybody any companies in mind that mirrors the index to an extent.
I think an ETF in gold or gold in general is a fools game. (I probably have to explain that one later :)
Other popular index, Platinum, URAX , Copper and Nickel, Alt. Energy, FTSE, DJ, DAX etc
I'm primarily looking at ETF Securities.
Has anybody any experience of ETFS or would they recommend another.

Its an index of shipping fares, and is therefore not investable

there are ETFs that track shipping companies if you want indirect exposure to the BDIY and they are offered by ETF Secs

You can always go short , thats half the point of an ETF.

In the US and Canada you have iShares and Horizon , it suits me to do my transactions in the evening

These aren't recommendations but rather some ETFs I like and you might want to take a look at

VT - Vanguard Total World - Low cost, broad diversification
    GXC - China
SDY - Dividend ETF (specialised however)
VBR & VOE - Vanguard small and midcap value
    MXI - Materials
    EZU - Eurozone ETF

I used to own some RJA but I've decided that ETNs are too risky for my liking so no more. Commodity ETFs in general have structural problems.

Best way to track the bdi is through the aptly named 'SEA' etf, it tracks the likes of dryships & excel marine. BdI is very volitile, so be warned this etf if not for the faint hearted:eek:. Great way to play on a commodity rally.

My favourite etf is the 'MOO', some nice companies here and gives good exposure to the rampant inflation we will probably witness in the coming years. Check out DBA aswell tracks commodity futures.

Ya I would hope to go long at some stage in the next 2 - 6 months, but i still feel we are in close to the end of a bear market rally and stocks are ready for another fall soon. I feel its to risky to go short so I waiting to see some light at the end of the tunnel
