Does anyone know anything about the reliabilty of these? The bird is thinking of buying a 00 model with 90,000 miles up on it?

    Here's the lowdown.

They're basically Toyotas so no reliability issues. But...

    They're nasty to drive
    The handling isn't exactly safe
Satefy is poor, even by 2000 standards
    Interior is cramped

They're not a jeep really, why not buy a proper car?

...not that light on juice, I've heard (by someone who has 2)...

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I drove my friends one back from Dublin once - Slow, noisy, useless brakes, VERY rolly in the corners. Only good thing was being so high you could plan your braking...

The best advice anyone on here can give you regarding a Terios is simple and comes in the form of one word.

    Dont.

would have to agree with the above for the older models. And from what you said, it will be an older one she buys if its a 00.

They made a lot of improvements with the newer model however (from 07). Better handling, easier to drive, quieter, nice finishing, etc. A little small however.

She's considering all options on a 2-2.5k budget.

Two possible reasons to buy it are:

a.) She lives on the far side of a ploughed field

    or

    b.) You want her dead.

Freelander - EDIT - when i found this car, i thought it would be a good alternative. Then i really thought about it.

If she wants something nice, why not get her one of these? At least that way, you can drive it at the weekends too!
