I don't know if I'm porting in the right forum about this, but I'm trying to get a quicktime video file compressed to under 50mb. I'm using premiere to compose whats in the video, but how should I go about compressing it without ruining the quality?

How big is the original file ?

Using a different encoding / codec may shrink it a little bit, does it have to remain quicktime.
If you need to shrink it a lot then use a lower resolution.

mpeg4 would be smaller than mpeg2 but that limits what you can play it back on

mpeg standards are based on de-compressing so different apps may compress better at the expense of a much longer compressing time,

The original file is typically around 180mb when I export it from Premiere.

Yeah, it has to be quicktime.
