I want to go to a particular apt in Spain for one week. However i thought I could pay thro PayPal. However the owner says I can pay thro a Bank account credit system (bacs). It will go from my account to theirs.
How safe is this? the apt may not exist at all....how do i know for sure?

It is safe in terms of making the transfer, what is waiting for you is obviously a completly different matter that the bank will not care about. I've done it before though and it is not unusual, it is a risk you take but on the other hand it is usually cheaper then going via an agency.

You could ask the landlord for the email/phone number of an English-speaking former renter and ask a few questions.

Any legitimate holiday renter should have a string of people willing to give (hopefully) positive reviews/references.

It is a safe enough thing to do, but you'll have no protection, and no come back, if the apt is not up to standard, or not even there, or if it's double booked or something like that. I wouldn't even use Paypal for something like this.

If you cannot independently confirm that you'll get what you pay for, and the amount of money involved is not insignificant, then don't do it.

Try to arrange for a deposit instead and pay in full once you're there?
Or ask for references as stated above.
There might also be reviews online if it's a popular flat.
