Was in Blackwater motors in Fermoy last night and they have a 2008 S3 with 1,000miles for €34,000. Thats essentially a brand new 265bhp 4wd rocket for peanuts. The far inferior Golf GTi was €39,000 last year before things started to go to hell for the car industry. I think thats an incredible deal and ive been trying to convince my brother to go for it(just so ill get to drive it) but he's not biting.

That is pretty amazing, I've seen some killer deals around. The distributers must have been creaming it for years.

The S3 has got 60 more horses and Quattro :pac:

Serious value alright, the S3 would have retailed at around 60k new!

There's a black 2008 one in Grange for 32k, with 4k on it, which is a nice deal if anyone's interested.

I took a test drive in it, and to be honest didn't like the car. I certainly wouldn't change my ST for it anyway. No feel to the steering, and a weedy little engine noise. Looks great though, and the interior is lovely.

The used RS4 I took a spin in there, was a much much nicer, proposition though and if I had the cash to spare, i'd jump right in.

Ugh, pretty much everything. As has been said already the S3 is 65bhp more powerful, has 4wd, is much quicker, has a nicer interior and is probably better made. Golf GTi's are over priced tosh as far as im concerned.

Well the info sheet on the one i saw said 1,000 miles. It was night time so i couldnt see exactly what colour it was but it could be it. 6,350miles is still a new car as far as im concerned so even if it is the same car its still a good deal.

The same could be said for S3's I'm afraid. I recently spec'd a new one with leather, sat nav and one or two other options ticked and it came to €64k. I couldn't justify paying that for what is essentially a VW golf, built on the same platform with (almost) the exact same engine with a larger turbo. Yes, it has Haldex AWD and a nicer interior but at €64k, you are into serious sports car territory such as year old M3's. I know which one I'd be spending 64k on. In fact S3 prices make the GTI look like pretty good value if you ask me. Remap a GTI and you'll get 230-250bhp, not far off an S3, and have €20k in your back pocket. Granted that year old S3 you are talking about is not bad value, but in general S3's, especially new one's are not worth the asking price. Just my opinion..

Oh i agree entirely with you but the one im talking about is good value. I wouldnt touch a full price one. I'd get a real car(saloon/coupe) for that money.
