What the standard Warranty on a Sky Plus Box?

    Hi

I was set up with Sky Plus in December. I ordered it through a Supplier Directly as it was much quicker than waiting two weeks through Sky and our old Box had died a death.

We had problems with the 2nd connection to the Plus box just after a month and we struggled to get an engineer to fix it. We were told that the warranty on a new box is only 30 Days.

We're having problems again unfortunately ,but i know we'll hit a wall with the TV Company. They are agents for Sky and it seems strange to only have 30 days warranty on something like this.

What kind of warranty has everybody else got?

    Thanks for reading!

That's ridiculous, 30 days on a brand new item, ring them up again and ask to speak to manager, quote Consumer goods act and tell them it is not acceptable and that you will seek legal representation to resolve issue.

From Sky, all their equipment has a 12 month warranty. You can also blag free equipment from Sky if you are a subscriber for a few years, done it twice myself. :D

I agree 30 days is ridiculous, our wholesaler gives 12 months parts and labour.

30 days? LOL. It has to be at least 12 months. In fact, Im nearly sure it was mentioned in smallprint on Sky contracts or somewhere.

BrianJD, was it a brand new Sky+ box he gave you or a "new" Sky+ box ( if you know what I mean )

Part of our business is selling Sky products and we have to give a full 12 month warranty on all boxes. It's no cost to ourselves to do it, Sky supply the stock and we get paid for service calls so I don't know why the guy you got it from is only giving a month warranty.

30 days seems a bit far fetched....All new boxes wether your a new customer or upgrading is 12 months standard warrenty.

    Thanks for the replies guys

It should def have been a new box cause i paid whatever Sky was advertising at the time. I'll give them a call. At the end of the day, I'm sure that Sky wouldn't like a customer of 8 years be ripped off by somebody who obviously acts for them becuase they must have recieved some subsidy for our upgrade from Sky.

Cheers for the advise, I should have known better. Do'h

You misunderstood. The warranty is 12 months. If the Digibox fails within 30 days, it will be replaced with a new one. If it fails after that, it will be sent for repair* or replaced with a "refurbished"** one.

*Repair can take up to 28 days. You can claim compensation off Sky for the loss of viewing.

**Refurbished usually means rejected by another customer and given a quick test to see if there's any obvious fault. It comes with a 90 day warranty if you are within 90 days of the end of your 12 month contract or already past it.

All such warranties are in addition to your consumer rights and do not detract from them. Electronic equipment is normally expected to last 6 years so if it lasts, say, 2 years, you'd be expected to pay 2/3 for a replacement since you've used up one third of its life expectancy. (This would be a typical court judgement. Each case is judged on an individual basis.)
