I've seen a ridiculous amount of films and I'm kind of running out of stuff that interests me now, but say if I liked the following films, what else do you reckon I'd like?

    In Bruges
    After Sex
Young People Fúcking (it's a comedy, not a porno!)
    A Clockwork Orange
    American Beauty
    Fight Club
    Snatch
    American History X
A Tale of Two Sisters (visually stunning korean psychological horror/thriller)
Epitaph (visually stunning korean psychological horror/thriller)
    Sleepy Hollow
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
    Interview with the Vampire
    Shawshank Redemption
    The Green Mile
    Turner and Hooch
    Forrest Gump
    Ring of Bright Water
    Death to Smoochy
    Trainspotting
    Pulp Fiction
    The Departed
    City of God
    Se7en
    Saving Private Ryan
    Enemy at the Gates
    Sin City
    Braveheart
    Requiem for a Dream
    Donnie Darko
    Gladiator
    Kill Bill Volume 1 & 2
The Devil's Backbone (spanish, Guillermo del Toro)
Pan's Labrynth (spanish, Guillermo del Toro)
    The Graduate
    The Princess Bride
    Stand By Me
    Children of Men
    The Butterfly Collector
    Big Fish
    28 Days Later
    Breakfast on Pluto
    Battle Royale
    Blue Velvet
    Carrie
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (original)
    Dead Poet's Society
    Edward Scissorhands
Gin Gwai (original korean version of the eye)
    Final Destination series
    I Am Sam
    What's Eating Gilbert Grape
    The Wedding Singer
    Punch Drunk Love
    Water (deepa mehta)
    The Virgin Suicides
    Thank You for Smoking
    Juno
    Rainman
    American Psycho
    O Brother, Where Art Thou
    No Direction Home
    Freaks (1930's)
    Nightmare Before Christmas

Basically love asian thrillers (though I have seen pretty much all of them from Audition to Marebito, etc., so only suggest them if they're incredibly rare), cult classics, well done drug flicks, the occasional comedy (really hate slapstick Will Ferrell / Jim Carrey type stuff), really well done vampire flicks, and I am addicted to well done WWII films.

Don't like slapstick comedy, movies that are visually unpleasant to watch (I don't mean gore, I just mean the shots aren't well thought out, effects are crap, etc), sci fi, action, or crime. As a rule. If the film is exceptional in every other way, I'll consider these things.. except maybe sci fi.

If it helps, I like shows like Scrubs, Big Bang Theory, Reaper, QI, IT Crowd, Penn & Teller: Bullshít, etc., if you suggest any comedy, and I adore Band of Brothers. Oh, and those BBC documentaries about dinosaurs, beasts, and sea monsters.

    Thanks for any help.

    The Orphanage

I like a good lot of those films too and based on them I'd suggest you have a look at Brick and True Romance and Broken Flowers.

    Heres a couple for you

    Reservoir Dogs

    Fargo

    Goodfellas

    My Cousin Vinnie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,750 ✭✭✭liah

Thanks Valmont, I'll have a look at those.

The rest I've seen, so far! Not too fussed on gangster films either now that I think of it.

I was so disappointed by the Orphanage to be honest with you :( The ending killed it for me. Oh well!

    Anyway, keep 'em coming!

Since something tells me you are a fan of
    visually stunning korean psychological horror/thriller
I would highly recommend the Chaser, which is just out on DVD. It gives the old thriller formula a nice kick in the nads.

Also Spring Summer Autumn Winter... And Spring which is on TV at some point this week (will check later). Amazing and beautiful film.

    Who framed Roger Rabbit.

I hate kids movies, but this one is simply a classic.
The live action/animation combo is very impressive for a film made in 1988.

You won't see films like this anymore with the advent of CGI taking over
everything these days. There are some adult overtones to it aswell which is nice.

    Highly recommended.

I watched Drustore Cowboy last night and I must say I'm not as impressed with it as I was with My Own Private Idaho or Elephant ... could have been my humour though.

For OP just noticed No direction home on your list so I'm gonna add
I'm not there ... Cate Blanchett is savage in it :)

Jesus I've seen pretty much all of these.. I need to watch fewer films, I think :(

As stated in the first post, I can't stand sci fi or a lot of crime/action (with some very rare exceptions, obviously).

    Keep them coming :)

    You might like:
Buffalo 66 (low-life indie comedy with a slightly weird romance)
Battle Royale (a Japanese "Lord Of The Flies" with guns)
Natural Born Killers (criminals and the cult of celebrity)
The Man Who Wasn't There (overlooked Coen Brothers film noir)
Insomnia (murder in Alaska, with a scary Robin Williams)
Secretary (depression leads to a really weird romance)

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

    Dawn of the Dead (modern)

Not that it's a bad film, but if you're going to recommend any Zombie film, it has to be the satirical and epic Dawn of the Dead (1979). It outshines the remake in so many ways. This film was literally the peak for zombie movies and there has been a steady decline since.

    These threads are so ****.

Why are we allowed to have "recommend me a film" threads and we cant have list threads?

Lists are infinitely more interesting than every member of the board just posting a selection of random films.
