Wedding cars that will charge by the hour??

    Hi all,

I posted on the classic car forum and got ate, bet and spit out for asking if someone would be prepared to hire their car by the hour!

Basically, I have done some ringing around, and it seems that a lot of the smaller outfits, are cheaper, but they insist on being booked for the full day. That means average of €450 for about 6-7 hours. Now, my wedding is quite late in the afternoon, and the venue is literally 15 mins from the pick up. Photos are being taken at the ceremony venue, and then its 15 mins back to the hotel. So all in, I reckon it will not take more than 3 hours - in fact, it can't cos the latest we have to start the sit down is 6pm, so it all has to be done and dusted by then. At the VERY worst, 4 hours. A total of about 15 mins driving in total, and I clocked it on my own car and its less than 20 miles all in.

Now the big companies, are expensive, and the smaller companies want you to hire them for the full day. It seems silly to me to pay for a full day of service when I only need 3 hours. So basically I'd be paying for the car to be sitting outside my house doing nothing for hours before its needed! Or as one guy kindly offered, "well you'll have to pay for the full day price, but if you don't need me til 3.30 then I won't arrive til 3pm" How kind of him - I can pay him to stay at home!

So I asked on the other forum, if anyone in Nth Co Dub would be willing to take a job, on a Thurs afternoon for 4 hours work max, for a fair price?

I don't expect red carpets, and champagne, fuss and pomp - I just want a nice car, and to be driven to the ceremony and then hotel.

Well like I said I got ate up and spat out for daring to suggest that someone might be glad of a couple of hours work at a fair price!

So they weren't much help, other than to get me annoyed and more convinced that at the mention of a wedding people rub it in! Some of the justifications were daft - one guy reckoned that the person hiring the car should bear the expense of him getting a haircut for the event!! And that the car being clean is not part of the service if you book it for another occasion, but if you book for a wedding then they will graciously make the car cleaner than normal! (well not in those words, but they way there were going on about how much better service you get for a wedding implies to me that for another occasion you get a lesser service??)

So my question to you good people is, do you know of any drivers with a classic car, in the Nth Dublin area, who might like 3-4 hours work? At a fair price?

Ideally I'd like a classic type car, but am open to suggestion.

Anyone who got a good price or knows of a company who will hire by the hour????

Maybe get in touch with the IVVCC, they might be able to point you in the direction of one of their members who would do the job for you. I've been on a few rallies with them and they have some spectacular cars.
