Temporary ID?

    Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but it was the closest I could find for my dilema.

The US Embassy currently has my passport as I'm applying for a visa and I don't have any other form of identification. Is there such thing as a temporary ID card you can get from the gardi as I have plans to go out tonight and forgot that I didn't have my passport.

Are there any other ways of legally proving my age?

    Thanks,
    Lep.

There are loads of ways of legally proving your age - birth cert and the likes. However it's different if you're proving your age to door staff in a bar/club. Most places these days only accept drivers licences, passports or Garda ID, so unfortunately you don't really have any other options. I'd say your best bet is to just try and explain your situation to any door staff, if you have any ID with your birth date on it it will come in handy.

As an aisde, you should really apply for your Garda ID. People relying slely on their passport is a bit mental in my opinion, too much hassle if it gets stolen/goes missing.

Aye,I guess I'll just try and explain it to the door staff but I don't fancy my chances as I'm only 20.

I've been meaning to get a garda ID for 2 years now but I keep putting it off as my passport has been doing me fine. I'm starting to regret that now. :p

You gave your passport to the US embassy ? You gave it to them ? GAVE it to them ?

To answer the question, no there isn't. Door/bar staff will only accept a passport of Age Card and the age cards take weeks and weeks and weeks. I heard from someone that there's some law that you're not allowed to carry around your passport on you unless it's for an official purpose (such as needing to prove your nationality) and that it's not supposed to be used for proof of age. It could be rubbish but as far as I know the passport remains the property of the The State. Or rather of "The Minister", I think it's the minister of foreign affairs . Not sure though, not a lawyer.
