Couple, quiet holiday with a beach - advice?

    Hi,

Looking for any advice on a holiday. Basically, I want a couples holiday that is relatively quiet (tbh we're looking for a beach, a pool and sleep!) but don't really want a really crappy hotel with knacks etc....we've done enough of that!

Preferably a good starred hotel, simple but classy.

Money is slightly tight, but not extremely so. I've been looking on lastminute.com, falcon etc but the variation in prices is so much I have no idea what we should be paying. I've been to Alvor in Portugal before, but a mite chilly at this time of year, canaries seem to be wildly inflated in price!

    Any advice?

PS - travelling in the next month

Costa de Almeria in south east Spain. The resort of Mojacar - there's the beach part of the resort and about 5 mins drive away is the hilltop village of Mojacar.

The town is beautiful, quiet and typically Spanish.

The beach resort is quiet - there are a couple of 3 and 4 star hotels. Some small restaurants. Steer clear of the self catering complexes - they're very family orientated and probably attract what you prefer to avoid.

Ryanair fly to Almeria airport as do Falcon.

There are several quiet resorts in Spain, go east of Malaga to Nerja or Rincon de la victoria. Nerja is touristy but mostly Spanish people ther. Rincon DLV is very quiet.

You could also try La rochelle in France, ryanair fly there and it to is quiet and full of mostly locals.

Dubrovnik is another option but it is a little more expensive to fly there but the difference can be made up on hotels/food and drink if you look around and stay away from the old town pubs/resteraunts. The city is also amazing if you get sick of the beach.

Bruzz, if that hotel is in the town of Vera, it's quite a distance from Almeria - probably about a 90 minute drive at least.

    Hi Bruzz.
I would recommend cala bona in Majorca for a quiet holiday. We went a few years back and it was nice and relaxing. There were plenty of bars and restraunts but without the crap in bigger resorts. I think it was geared more towards familys and couples looking for a quiet place. There were daytrips to the mountains where you go up on a bus and down on an old train. There was also a trip to the cauves del drac- absoutely amazing. There is nothing worse than people going on holiday and comming home saying it was crap because there was nothing to see. They spend all night drinking and all day dying.

also check out morocco, egypt, dominican republic. you can get great deals, you're almost guaranteed great weather and there's plenty of very quiet hotels and towns to choose from.
