Is it possible to weld a gear linkage?

Was pulling into the drive, tried to change into reverse and found myself stirring porridge with the gear stick. Now stuck in first and no gears.

It snapped where the sleeve snapped that connected to the gear linkage.

Dont know what vag could charge me for a new one but its probably extortionate prices.

First time the very reliable little golf has given me problems.....

I've a scrapped GTI, if it's the same and your in the Cork area you can have it for free but you'll have to take it out yourself.

Is there not a pin or something securing the broken off bit.

Can't remember exactly if it has. (I remember it happening to a mate who had a 1982 Golf and it was why his first driving test got cancelled (c1991).

Should be easily repairable. THIS should answer your query

Do you know anything about the abandoned MkII up in the links?
