    Hi folks,
Hoping to upgrade to one of these in the next few weeks. Any tips on what to look out for and price ranges?
    Many thanks in advance,

Make sure it has a full service history, regarding oil changes, every 15k. and start it from cold your self. Some had faulty injectors and gave a bad knocking noise when started from cold the noise goes out of them after approx 3 mins of a drive.

Before you cold start it make sure the engine is actually cold. It's not unheard of for sellers to run a car for a few minutes before a customer arrives to make sure the engine is well warmed up.

make sure cv joints arent fcukd, and that it easily engages all gears and 4 wheel drive, check all bushens ,back bushens commonly go, make sure it never went without back brake pads, easy to change the front and tell you its got new brakes, this happened my one until i noticed brake fluid on a back tire,
be certain about the milage before you part with money, 06 landcruisers are worth nothing at the minute so expect to pay betwen€8-13k ,its a buyers market so dont be fooled by any sales man bull sh2t either,
also give the steering a good run over, make sure it lines up correctly, and look for inside wear on the tires,
another thing lock the steering fully to each side and drive ticking over in first and reverse, if you hear a tin ratteling , that means the cv joints are on the way out or gone,
around the hitch will let a few tell tale signs of abuse, dents in the bumper, trailer lights ripped off and botched back on,
my one also gave alot of indicator and light trouble, light fuse would blow when driving up the road at night, indicators would blow when going around a roundabout and so on,
and the injectors do give trouble this is down to a common rail engine, but if the diesel is right, and the filter and lines and tank are kept clean you should get away alright

the jack and wheel brace should give you a good idea of previous owner, they are normally inside the back door in a little compartment ,inspect them for scratches and wear, to see if the last owner changed wheel alot, and if they did question why

I havent seen many back bushes faulty but the front bush in the front bottom arms does perish and come away from the bonded metal insert.

Get someone to press the brake and rock the steering. If the bush is starting to fail you will see the rubber splitting and movement in the arms.

As with all 4x4's jack it up by the arms, as close to the wheel as possible and check the bottom ball joints for lift. Check all the boots on the steering joints. If any of them are split it is a DOE fail.

The injectors are only giving serious trouble on the newer engines and it is not caused by dodgy diesel. Toyota IRL are spendin a fortune on recall and warranty engine claims. If the inj are left to long they will cause piston failure.

Another v common DOE failure with the older LC's is Handbrake imbalance. The cable goes to one caliper first and then there is a second cable running from it to the other side. The imbalance occurs because the first caliper locks up before the other one has a chance and knocks the jeep out of the brake rollers.

where are the 8k 2006 Land Cruisers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Daputamadre69

Really insightful help guys! Gonna have to bring a notepad with all these points jotted down. With regard to the 8k 2006 examples, I havent seen a 06 for less than 13.5k.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭leitrim lad

ya they are hitting between 8 - 13.5k andsteadly coming down ,if your shrude you will get a good price, and remember the seller will cry if you walk away for the sake of say 2 grand, thats why its a buyers market

I'm in the market currently for either a 04/05 Transit Connect with Electrics & Aircon, or a SWB Landcruiser, and nothing I can find represents decent value. Particularly the LC's, there's one one Donedeal with almost 200k Miles for 8k!

ya ,but they are asking prices, i can assure you if you have the money in your hand and tease the salesperson with it you will succeed in the bid, sher its on the news and radio every day how desperate the motor trade is to make any sales at all, and they wont let money walk away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Did a quick search on carzone for pigiron, LC commercial, any year, up to 75k miles, they start at about 9k for a 02, and go up from there. Leitrimlad, I'd say you're being a tad optimistic.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭leitrim lad

fair enough , around mid summer i would assume would be the motor trades best tmes of year, sales wise, i will come back to you in say end of june to mid july with prices, and links, but there are bargains to be got out there, i know of lads in the ex building trade who cannot afford to advertise, and would jump at 8k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Daputamadre69

Leitrim Lad, can you pm me with any of these potential sellers numbers.
    Thanks

Can't afford to advertise? Buy and Sell is free. Plus, if someon's that strapped for cash, it's unlikely that the jeep will be anything other than badly neglected

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭leitrim lad

dapurmadra ,i will find out this week about, 2 particular jeeps, men in serious trouble, the only thing that was putting me off was that there may be more owed on the jeep than what they would sell it for, as they simply cant afford to use them anymore,
they wouldnt be abused or neglected,as they were bought as luxury items in good times, but im doing a finance check on them when i get the reg no, i may be in the market for one myself but nit just yet, as my own one has alot of work done,
like i know of one case where the jeep is locked in a shed incase it would be lifted, so thats a non runner, but i no that one other jeep never pulled a trailer, and i had to but the lad that has it 20 fags last week and give hijm a lift into town, jeep is parked at the house, and for sale as he put it,
so i will come back to you when i know they are properly for sale and can be sold (finance), within the next week or so.
but if you keep an eye out for your local builder who has 20 odd houses standing and a landcruiser, the wheel would be alot easier bought then the house

thats why im in doubt about these cheap jeeps, you could hand over the cash, and a week later you could get up some morning and the jeep gone,so always do a finance check ,before you hand over the cash, i just found out that one jeep i know of locked in a shed, has €17455 outstanding on it, and i would say he would sell it for around 8 - 9

isnt there a document tat you can get the person to sign which says that any with standing money is left with the owner before sale??

id say a few people would be reluctant to sign it!!!

Depending on how their finance agreement is structured (i.e. if it's hire purchase or lease), they may not be the legal owner of the vehicle. You'd want to be careful about this.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭leitrim lad

i no that if it is leased off the bank you cannot claim ownership until the last payment is clear, then you get a dispersal invoice, and the title passes, if its hp you own more every payment you make, and the bank cannot reposess the viechel, unless they get a court order, but that wont stop them taking it, with a lease they can take it the minute you miss the payment,
and if someone sells you an item that has outstanding finance on it,and fail to tell you they could serve a jail sentence for fraud

Il second that, any around 8k il buy a few of them :D:D

well lads , im just in from the car auction in naas, the good news is
2 x lwb landcruisers sold there tonight,
2006 silver very clean seemed ok finance job 12k plus fees
2006 navy blue a tad on the rough side but still clean, as in bumpers scratched, 11k, now i am open to correction on this as i was concentrating on the other ring, but im nearly sure thar was the last bid on each one, there was also a d max 2006 blue for around 11k.
as i said i am open to correction but i think thats what they made

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Daputamadre69

What kind mileage had they LL?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭leitrim lad

i didnt get a look inside them ,deputmadre the silver one was clean id say on its second set of tires, no real abusive marks, or scratches and the tire wear was even,
the navy blue one was rough enough, needed a front bumper, and i think a mirror, and the wheels were all scratched, i think there was a tail light lense broke,
they were both finance repo, and i would say there will be a few there every week, if its on again saturday morn i will tip over, and let you know if anymore go trough,
also try www.firstchoicecommercials.ie ask for mark o neill he normally has one or two at a fair price maybe even less than the auction if your as they say a cash buyer

    Hi Folks,
Just home after a day of looking at Landcruisers all over the Munster region. Some were very overpriced at the dealers even with a bit of wrangling. So on our last port of call we found 05 black, lwb,6 speed, 50k miles, FSH. Bodywork in need of a little tlc (loads of scratches,no dents, hinge strap gone on drivers door) also in need of full service and tracking, and finally a good valet. Very happy with the price agreed, I don't want to disclose it, but , Leitrim Lad you were not far off in your estimations. Many thanks to one and all for your advice, esp re. the injectors and cv boots.
    cheers :)
