    Hi all,

I have a SATA drive that came from a laptop and need to get data from it.

Whats the handiest way of doing this?

I was looking at SATA to IDE cables and connecting it to a desktop.

I see there's SATA USB Caddys on ebay.

    Any ideas?

IF YOUR PC HAS A SATA port on the motherboard ,just knock off pc,install sata drive,go2 bios set boot order, sata as drive 3,or 4 ,or else buy ide to sata cable 6 euro, peats ,maplins.installing it in a usb sata enclosure is easiest,it just shows up as an external hd,it depends on how much you want to spend. my pc has 5 sata ports spare, cpu dual core amd 2.oghz.

You can connect it to a desktop if you have a spare sata cable as the connection is the same as on 3.5inch sata drive, of course you will need to have a spare sata power connector from the power supply to.

if the original hard drive in the PC is sata you shouldn,t have to change anything in the bios,If its IDE just check in Bios that IDE hard drive is set to boot first.
