    Hey,

For the past few days my laptop has just been restarting itself every so often, it doesnt happen after so 30 mins of usage, it seems to be completly random...

It is an Acer laptop and i have it about 3 years, any idea what the problem could be....

    Thanks...

    Over-heating would be my guess.

could be a virus or malware. Firstly make sure that your anti virus and spyware are up to date do a virus scan etc. Did you install any new software or anything along those lines? it's also possible that the fault lies elsewhere. You motherboard, an add-in card, or disk drives may have a fault in them, Or like fasterkitten said the system may be overheating. You should run a diagnostic test at startup to make sure all components are running properly. I think there is a free tool called Motherboard Monitor which you can download and run to check motherboard and CPU temperatures.

    "may be a virus"

    No.

Just overheating. I'm assuming its well out of warranty so you wont be doing any harm: what you honestly need to do is get a precision screwdriver and take it apart. I did that to my cousin's 4 year old laptop a few weeks ago and found a fistful of dust, dirt, and hair. Most of it clung around the fan, blocking it from extracting heat from the CPU. When the CPU gets to hot it automatically cuts power to save itself from burning up.
