It's 2.7 miles according to google maps. I don't know my way around dublin, and I need to go to Ranelagh. The bus stops near O'Connell Street, and from there, I wouldn't know where to go, so my best bet seems to be to get a taxi.

Do you know where st. Stephen's Green is?

The Luas leaves there and stops in Ranelagh and it'll cost you about €2?

    maybe a better option?

It will depend on traffic and time of day, but probably about 8-10 euro.

Alternatively the following buses serve Ranelagh from the city centre - 11/a/b, 44, 48a.

    11/a/b - Gresham Hotel, O'Connell Street
44 - Screen Cinema, Townsend Street
    48a - D'Olier Street, at TCD end

10-12 quid any time I've gotten one in the evening, but unless you've got a lot to lug about, I'd be heading up to the LUAS stop!

What bus stops on O'Connell? Many buses head southside through the Green area, like 46A, or Aircoach, etc., . Any of them will leave you out on the dame street or stephen's green area, and the Luas is a better option.

For your exact street, DTO have a planner to get the walking route from the luas stops to your street.
