Operating System Not Found

    Ok. Major problem.

Got a new GFX card and went to install it today. Did so as I have done many times before without issue. When I booted up the system, I got a Floppy Diskette Error (don't have a floppy) followed by "Operating System Not Found".

I took out the new GFX Card, returned the hardware to the exact way it was before this issue, but the problem is still there.

Trying to boot into Repair CD throws up either a BSOD with 0x0000007E error, or hangs at the screen beyond that.

System is a Dell XPS. OS is Vista Ultimate x64. bootmgr file is missing. Hard Drives pass diagnostic test.

F8 into Safe Mode not working.

    Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

But I can't use the Windows Repair CD, so can't do either of the suggested solutions...

Do you mean you don't have the repair cd?
    if not

No I meant that it was BSODing every time I boot with the repair CD.

Anyway, thanks for all the help. I fixed this not long after I made the post.

Very odd, never seen the likes of it. Basically, did a few checks, and the system wasn't seeing any partitions. Obviously I was a little freaked by this. I figured my HDD must have gone on the whack, so I scanned again. The scan said that Disk 0 and Disk 1 were both fine. This is when I noticed something odd. I have my two 320gb HDD configured with RAID, so, they should have been scanned as one disk. I went into my BIOS, and sure enough, my RAID had been turned off. I turned it back on, and Windows boot as if nothing had ever happened. How my RAID could be reset I'll never know. But at least now the problem is fixed. :D

I had similar problems but they happened after trying to install unbuntu as a third OS

operating system not found has happened to me soooooooooooooo often

usually for me its a loose cable

1st check all SATA Power connectors they become loose easily (the designer of those should be shot)

2nd check all the SATA Data connectors --- same reasons as above

3rd ensure u reconnected the hard drives in the correct order cos the boot.ini file must be present in the drive designated as drive 0 in your cmos

4th all else fails test your hard drive in another pc to ensure its not dead

    vista bootloader is very fussy
