I've been landed with getting some prizes together for a society and am struggling for good ideas with a limited budget. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Budget is as follows:
    - Winner €50
    - Runner-up €35
    - Class 1 Winner €30
    - Class 2 Winner €30
    - Class 3 Winner €30

You could be lazy and go with vouchers all the way.. Or box of proV1s(€50), nice towel and a fancy pitch mark repair tool, bag of tees(roughly €30) or look for special offer on case of beer.

You'd get a local pro to give you vouchers for lessons maybe?
    e50 for 1 hour, e30 for half-hour

That's what I was thinking at the start but have been told that balls, tees, etc. aren't "appropriate" prizes. I'll drop up to McGurks to see if I can spot something that looks "appropriate" (I'm sure I'll know it when I see it :().

Hadn't thought of that. Thanks. Do you know if there's any scheme in place in which a range of pro's will accept the same voucher?

Arg, be sure to mention when in the golf shop that you are shopping for a society, they always, in my experiance, give you a discount which will always encourage you back.

GUI vouchers are the way forward
    Almost every pro accepts them

If they're just prizes that are handed out then GUI vouchers are a good idea. If you're going to be presenting the prizes or will have them on show somewhere then go for a few things that will fill up a space nicely and look well. Travel covers for golf bags are a great idea, people usually dont have one when they want to travel they're around e30-40. A few bags (e40-50 - for a decent bag), ball shaggers (20 euro -fantastic for practise) or caddy carts (e25 for a decent one), ball retrievers for 10-15 are brilliant and save a tonne money in the long term. Jiggers are cool to get e15-20, they're quite novelty but useful too. Funny head covers or a chipping net arent bad. As we are coming into summer you may be able to get last seasons wet gear (a top or pants or something) for sale prices. Tend not to go for small expensive things. All of those are in the price range you have.

Edit, Also like LOFT said be sure to mention youre getting prizes for a society and you might save a few quid. Also the company should keep your societies receipt so your members will have no problem exchanging their stuff if they want to bring it back.

I always think wine is a good prize. Can be enjoyed by those at home.
I tend to get a "so what !" if I arrive home with golf balls or a golf shirt.

I feel the same but I've been told the winners (of various classes) prizes need to be more golf related. The runners-up will be getting wine. (Might be aiming for second place so :))

    Hey Arg,

    Maybe take a look at www.celebritywines.ie .

Wines ideally suited for golf prizes. Even have a new wine from
    Christy O'Connor Jnr !

    Cheers,

Personally, I always feel the prizes should all be golf related... I've won a Waterford Crystal clock and a picture frame in the past - but I'd have much sooner got a box of Pro Vs or a Kartel golf shirt or something.

You can't go wrong with a golf voucher...

    Trophies all the way!

When i won the juvenile club championship i won golf shoes which could be traded in for store credit:mad:

    I would have preferred a €5 medal:(

You should give a wooden spoon to last place:P

Thanks for all the suggestions. Went for a golf bag, a wind cheater and holdalls in the end (with great discounts from Mc Gurks). Have a few more events to organise this year and won't be going the trophy route. While I liked the idea of the vouchers they wouldn't look as well for the presentation (as pointed out by a few).

Good prizes arg, fair play... I won a set of Kartel all-weather gear about six years ago and they're still perfect. Expensive stuff so to win one in a prize is very welcome... You made some good choices there.

I hate trophies unless it is one you hand back every year.
