Hi guys, i'm a petite lass that has taken up jogging. I've always walked but recently I've started doing some interval training, i go out about twice a day (I've a terrier pup that needs to be tired out!:D) for around 40minutes and these sessions include walking/jogging every 5/10minute intervals. I've been doing this for about 3weeks now and my Knees are killing Me!!!

I've been horse riding since i was knee high, and i've gotten belts to the knees several times throughout the years so some of it can be based on that. I do jog on the road, i have heard its not good, but what can you do.

I know i've to get better running shoes but i've a size3 foot so this can be a problem as womens runners seem to start at size 4. Does anyone have any tips as to where to get runners in around Limerick/Tipp/Cork (not too expensive - part time student), how to mind my knees and also general jogging/running tips!

Limerick Sports Shop or John Buckleys in Cork are both excellent (in Limerick ask for Siobhan). Once you start running a few times a week you need proper trainers to cushion your joints and a hundred euros on trainers is an economy compared to several hundred in physio bills!

It's also a good idea to run on grass / trails where you can - in a park, by a river, round pitches.

**Mac** build in some non-running rest days as well. Your legs need time to recover - more so as you're a beginner. Never mind what your dog wants :)

also i recommended a good cushioned running sock. i got the nike cushioned ones in marathon sports recently and the difference it makes is unreal.

this together with good trainers also means you ll be less stiff (as less impact) and therefore recover quicker making the whole process less painful (or enjoyable if you are masochistic)

If you can't get size 3 runners in a shop - try www.startfitness.co.uk
Luckily for you, junior sizes come in cheaper than adults.

Or try ordering online from American sites, their female sizes start at a US 5, which is a UK size 3.

She's an absolute legend and will sort you out. Was a top grade runner and she knows her stuff. Dead sound and won't lead you astray.

    Find Buckley is very expensive.
