just a thread to throw a few ideas about regarding the next cover that we do.

i had the idea that we could make the next one a little more varied and came up with the muse track "starlight"

it has guitar, bass, real drums, sampled drums, loadsa vocals, synths and piano.

i reckon it would be a good way for some to get to grips with midi this time (aswell as audio)

anyway, i know it'll be a bit away but anyone else any ideas on it?

I'm up for it. Much more my bag than the last track...

well i have no problem doing some tracking (vocals, guitars and bass -both of which would be di'd and re-amped) and the midi end of things here if michael hasnt got available time. dunno about drums? maybe yoda could track at home and we could work with samples aswell?

    any other takers?

    we'd need:

    drums
    vocals
    guitarist
    bass
and a keyboard/piano player. (i could figure these parts out but it would be nice to have a good pianist do it)

I've got plenty of them if you need one.

Count me in either way... whether it's the Muse cover or an original, I'd be happy to get involved again... even just as a spectator (if somebody else wanted to put down drums).

Actually, what would be a great exercise is if we do 2 separate versions… one tracked in a home studio(s), the other tracked in a “proper” studio. I’m sure we’d all learn a lot from differences in quality based on gear, rooms, etc.

    Just a thought

...oh, and if it's an original, then I’m sure the rest of our band would be happy to have a go at tracking any of our stuff here…

Just been talking to Joe in the Nutshed Studio in Clara Co.Offaly and he's offered a day if you want to record or mix there?

Rather than us doing it we'll just guide you if you get stuck .... You guys should produce and engineer it yourselves.

For those guys who haven't had the opportunity to record outside the bedroom it will give you a chance to hear some of the things we've posted about in action.

Joe will be there to help ... I, of course, will be there to take the pizz. ;)

    Nice one Paul.
I probably won't be able to make it to the tracking session but will gladly do a mix when the tracks are available.
I really enjoyed the first session, especially meeting a few of the guys here but tbh I am a bit underwhelmed at the response. Only myself and Barry DT have done mixes so far, even though the tracks have been available for a while now. The whole idea of this project was to give everyone something to mix with guidance and suggestions for the more inexperienced guys.
Maybe I am wrong and a mixes will start to appear soon.

I'm getting myself an Apogee Duet, and wanna hold off on a mix until I have it. Will be putting one up within the next couple of weeks... I think a lot of us home guys are likely to be a little slower off the mark in getting mixes to a place where we're happy to put them up than the pro guys. I think that's probably something we can all learn to improve on.

Paul - that's a great offer. I'd definately like to be part of that session in some capacity.

Trackmix... I'm hoping to get my mix of the Nickleback song finished by next week-end. I'm still working up the Brownie points at home (since I was away tracking / mixing with the Boardsies for most of last week-end ;) )

I might even look at putting down a 2nd version with drums tracked in my own place just to show the difference.

I think "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns 'N' Roses would be an epic cover.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,655 ✭✭✭i57dwun4yb1pt8

jeez who would sing that ???

how about real wild child by IGGY !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,277 ✭✭✭DamagedTrax

both are just straight rock songs (which we've done already). i was thinking something with a little more of a pallette (synths, samples etc)

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,344 ✭✭✭fitz

Yeah, I think go for something a bit more pop-rock, or a bit more synth-rock...just to get a different type of mix to approach.
