Thinking of going to Prague for a break and I'm looking for recommendations on how many nights would be enough to see the sites and enjoy the cafes and bars at ease?? Was thinking maybe 4-5 nights.

Would also appreciate recommendations for any good 3* or 4* hotels.

Read that its best to go during the week to avoid the stag and hen parties.

    Any tips would be great

Cant recommend hotels as we stayed in a hostel but we were there for 5 nights and tat was good

1st night: Massive Club on the river
    2nd night: Some other club
3rd Night: Massive Club on River
    4th night: Some other Club
5th night: Strip Club, then Massive club on river

As you can see we really liked the massive club on the river.
Also seek out a bar called the 'Beer Factory', it's on the main street. There's a tap in the middle of your table so you pull your own piints and just pay for them all at the end. And as with the rest of Prague it's great beer at a dirt cheap price.

I rather think OP has a different perspective, given an apparent wish to avoid stag and hen parties.

Yes, I think 4-5 nights is good. You could whiz around the main tourist sites in about two days, but that would be just having a quick and superficial look at everything. Most of the interesting bits are close together, and the outlying parts of the city are generally not very appealing.

There is a good choice of music events every evening, most of it pretty good, some very good indeed.

There is a disappointing tendency in some areas to try to rip off tourists. Avoid taxis as much as you can, and if you need one, use AAA cabs. Always check restaurant bills, including the arithmetic: on one long visit, I reckoned that just over half the bills were padded in different ways.

A group of us stayed in the Raddisson hotel just off Wenceles Square.Really central and fab breakfasts. You can walk to the old town from here.Maybe meet a local guide under the famous clock and do a walking tour up to the Castle.See the changing of the guard.

Nice coffee shops on the way up there and some good views of the city. The Charles Bridge is always packed and loads of street traders there.Try Rocky O Reillys -again off the square-good wholesome food and the craic.

There is an Irish bar in the old town as well.To be honest I found that many locals, even younger folk, dont speak much English. They have the basics in the hotels and some bars. There is another restaurant across from the Radisson and very cheap and more local food than others.

I reckon three days is more than enough. One word of warning - be careful of pickpockets and seemingly official looking locals asking you for your passport!!

Try to avoid spreading a map out and looking agog when you are in the middle of the street. Is safe enough but I did hear some people remark that it was not the "friendliest " city they were ever in.

    Hope this helps.

Both times we were there we stayed in Andel's Hotel, a bit out of the city centre (not necessarily a bad thing) but right beside an underground and tram station for easy access. It's a modern boutique hotel and we loved it.

I think four nights would be loads to get a good feel for the city, five might be a bit much.

We stayed in the Hotel Tyl linky very reasonable, located in the New town! Tram very close. Cold breakfast in morning but was all good, Tesco Express is around the corner, we got crossiants and pastries nice and fresh there in the morning. only fault with the hotel room is no tea/coffee making facilities!

You HAVE to visit Cicala linky , its an absoloute MUST! Owned by Italian expats.... Food was amazing. Has a wall with pictures full of celebs who have visited... Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Josh Harnett! Can't remember anymore, but LOTS!

You must visit the Castle, the old town (go to the top of the Astronomical clock!), Charles Bridge!
We were there Mon - Thurs! Perfect amount of time! No stags or hens in sight! was brilliant!!
Be sure to agree taxi prices (if getting one from Airport) prior to the drive....! Mind your belongings, especially in the main shopping district
(Saw plenty of baddies cashing in stolen euros at bureau de change!)
