Could also be that coming back to the island was one of the rules, but looks like he had a run in with penny and desmond.

I've rarely looked forward to an episode as much, can't wait to see what happens when

he summons smokey from the temple, I'd imagine something like what happened Eko right before he got killed

. Look's like we're gona find out why Ben was all battered & bruised before the flight.
