    Hi,

I'm looking to ask my girlfriend to marry me and at the stage of looking for a ring. I know she likes pear rings and have found a ring I like and hope she will like. My question is about the size of the diamond as I worry it might be too large and therefore a little crass. Its measured at 9x6mm, which can be seen here :

Does anyone have an opinion on this ?

    Thanks

It's hard to really judge without seeing the ring, but I think it really depends on the person. What might look crass and tacky on some could also look stunning on another. My own ring has several stones in it, but I always thought I'd like a solitaire. When I tried on solitaire rings none of them suited me at all.

Does your GF wear any rings at the moment? Are there stones in them? It might help to have a look through her jewellery box if you can and see what sort of rings she has there so you'd have a better idea of what would suit her hand.

Is it something like this you're looking at? Personally I think that ring would look lovely. It's a nice delicate band, which can have a lot to do with how 'bling' a ring looks on. Ooh, have you been in to the shop to enquire about it? A friend of mine got one of the sales assistants to try the ring on herself so he'd have a better idea of how it would look on someone before he bought it.

    Good luck!!

Thanks for the reply - the ring is close to the one posted, in yellow gold with a white gold stone setting and a slimilar slim ring, she already has a yellow gold diamond band which she loves. So im happy with the colour. Its just the diamond size that im stumped on.

I will get the sales assistant to wear it, at least it will give me an idea !

    smoggy,

just a suggestion, why not book a couple of flights to Charleroi with Ryanair
and get a train (1hr) to antwerp, book accomodation & have a look around the shops, pick a few rings (give her a choice of say 3) then send her off packing to do a bit of shopping you then go off and buy the ring.

could have a look at www.diamondland.be for information

i was originally quoted 21K for a ring in cork, got it in antwerp for a fraction of the cost

    best of luck

i agree with toots85. it is very hard to judge a ring with out seeing it on your girlfriend/ future wifes finger. i've just picked my ring. i intially was thinking of a solitare but when i tried it on it looked lost on my finger and it was near enough the same size as the one you've chosen . i decided on a 3 stone princess cut with pave band which suits my finger perfectly. if your girlfriend has thin dainty fingers it might look too big ( yes, there is such a thing as a diamond looking too big!) or too small if she has larger fingers like mine.
The ring you have chosen is beautiful but would you consider buying her a token ring for the proposal and then head to the jewellers to choose the perfect diamond size and enjoy the champagne and excitment that goes with it.:p
