I bought a two man tent there a few years ago. It was alright, it did the job. Not very durable and really hard to pack into the supplied bag but I still use it. Certainly worth the price.

Their poorly superimposed tent pictures are always hilarious tho.

I've found their triangas, sleeping mats and sleeping bags very good. Wouldn't say the tents are up to full-on mountain weather and don't find the boots or sticks last for very long.

They had base layers and micro fleeces before which were ok but I don't think I'd trust much else there. :pac:

    Hi all,

My kids have a bee in their bonnet about going camping down in Wicklow at weekends etc . It may just be a fad so I'm not that keen on investing serious money on loads of kit which may only be used once or twice.

I see Lidl have the following on sale this week http://www.lidl.ie/IE/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20100527.p.6_Man_Tent

Can anyone give me a steer on whether this would be a good investment to test out whether camping is for us? (2 adults and two kids)

We will certainly only be doing spring/summer type camping.

I heard Halfords used to do all in one deals where you got a family sized tent, sleeping bags etc etc for €130 or so but I haven't seen these myself and don't know if they are any good.

If anyone has any other suggestions other than the Lidl tent above I'm all ears.

    Cheers all.

    Ben

Read it a few times and still trying to work it out myself. Anglo and tents? What's the connection? It's like a cryptic crosssword clue.

    Ah!

I know the feeling. No human should go near the internet, or send a text, when drunk!

Halfords are still doing that special but I wouldn't go near it, if you want to go soon, I'd pick up one of the all in deals from Argos (http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/3401651/Trail/searchtext%3ETENT.htm). If you can wait a few weeks I'd order a decent tent online like the Vango Icarus 500 Tent (the 2010 model) on Amazon.co.uk

    DubOnHoliday,

    Perfect info, thanks very much.

Amazing what Boardsies can come up with when they're not pissed, eh Ducky boy?

The Vango Icarus 500 looks ideal and worth the extra investment.

    Cheers.

    Ben

Ben, this is the keenest price I've found for that tent and its in Ireland which is comforting if something goes wrong : http://www.53degreesnorth.ie/ICARUS-500-TENT.html
the price is available via their website only though.

My Dad purchased a large tent from Lidl last year and I borrowed it with my girlfriend as we were off to france for 2 weeks with the car and bikes, we wanted a tent large enough to put the bikes in if it was raining. The quality was poor it remained water tight but the stitching was dodgy, also all of the zips had failed to some degree since then. and I almost forgot one of the poles was missing the bit at the end and another one the cord came undone and we had to manually feed it back through the poles before we could put it back up again.

they are cheap for the size of tent but more trouble than their worth. That being said it was an entirely different tent.
