I read recently that Les Kiss is spending time with Connacht working on their defensive organisation. This prompted me to wonder ..

What do the Irish management team do when the team is not in camp ? Do they have other IRFU 9 to 5 responsibilities, e.g. run coaching clinics for schools & clubs.

    Anyone know ?

Yeah, I can imagine some of their duties involve working with the various provinces etc. Especially now that Kidney is really promoting close working relationships between his team and the provinces.

Kissy was working with Connacht, and he is off home now for a well deserved holiday! Ireland defense really stood out for me in this years tournament - he is doing a great job.

He may have been good for Ireland, but we shipped 32 points against Edinburgh last week. Ah well, I suppose you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! :o:D

Maybe he should work some more with Connacht, given that Connacht are the only province without a dedicated defense coach.

That kind of reasoned thinking is highly dangerous. It could be seen as a clever use of resources, heaven forbid.

Kiss is a very valuable resource alright. Highly rated down south for a reason.

    Yeah, but ..

the other 3 each have specialist coaches, so do the Irish coaches work at provincial level, or Academy level.

These are ambitious dedicated professionals. I doubt they're at home watching Jeremy Kyle when the team is not in camp . I assume Gert Smal is not back in SA - based on me seeing his son at the DART station most evenings.

What? If the IRFU are in anyway serious about using Connacht as a development resource then they should absolutely have priority over the academies of Provinces who already have dedicated defensive coaches. Let the Leinster defense coach looks after the Leinster academy defense training etc... Get the Irish defense coach coaching the players knocking on the Irish team door (Muldoon, Cronin, Carr, Keats, Murphy, Wilkinson).
