Entries opened today for Triathlon Connemara on July 25th. Has anyone done this before and if so have you any thoughts.

How's the organisation as a whole. Is it well run, well marshalled? How is transition. I presume its allocated by number and on a good surface? Whats the water like there generally? Is it choppy or particularly difficult compared to others? Whats the bike and run route like? Hilly or flat or in between?

Any other comments would be great. I am thinking of doing this over Beast of the East as i am on the broad side so hills dont suit me the best!

    Here's a link to entry - http://www.activeeurope.com/Events/index.cfm?AC=EventDetails_V2&E=76139

    Thanks

    Hi Bambaata,

Triathlon Connemara is a great race out in the sticks of Galway. (I'm Race Director so am obviously slightly bias!)

Last year we got loads of feedback on how friendly and approachable all our marshals were. We also got one of the best days of the summers so the sunshine sure helped us out!

The swim takes place in Cill Chiarain bay, it's a triangular swim around buoys placed out in the sea. I swam it the year before last and it was lovely, not too choppy as it's slighly enclosed in a bay area.

The bike isn't too hilly, there is one hill on the course. You can check it out here http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/-/229476725845

The run is straight up a hill, a good challenge and really rewarding as it's down hill to the finish!

If you've any other questions feel free to contact us on the GTC website.

    Best of luck,
    Eileen

Book accomodation well in advance, and check the place out on the web before booking. Not all the accomodation is what someone doing a triathlon might want.

Race is good. (Although bring a small water bottle of whiskey in case the weather turns mid race!)

For those that are struggling on a hot day like last year, that hill is a killer.
Challenge is a nice word for it.
Nice scenery though, and seconded for the great atmosphere.
