My first memories of a triathlon in Sligo. It seems to been a half iron man distance with Ger Hartman winning it a few times
    Can't find any results though.

Check out top left of page 2 of the below. No wet suits there but then 1984 was one of the best summers ever

    Hi Abhainn

Yes I remember them to but I was just a kid. Ger Hartman and Ann Carney dominated over the 10 years. It will be nice to have it back in Sligo. Are you interested yourself?

Also I am new to Boards.ie and I want to let everyone know this event is on. It was a great event in the past and will be again. It is also for a great cause-The NorthWest Hospice so we are trying to raise as much money as possible. Do you know how best to get this information out there.

    Thanks a mill

    Erika

I remember those Triathlons well myself. They used to be a great weekend in Sligo and are what got me interested in cycling and running initially. Pity my swimming is so bad :(

    Hi stmochtas,

Why not get some mates and do the relay event? It will be a great weekend in Sligo.

    Yes Erika I am interested.
A few points to note for now:
    1. On TRI Ireland race calender website it doesn't mention the location of the Metal man. I missed that and only became aware of the event by your post. Perhaps that can be updated
    2. I assume the website www.sligotriathlon.com will be updated for
    i) race briefing details
    ii) race regristration
    iii) prizes etc
    3. What is race fee as I see no mention of this anywhere except if I have to go through the whole entry process ?
    4. How many entrants is the race limited too?

    Best of luck

    Hi

Thanks for the reply. The website is being updated as we speak.
The Entry fee is €60. I will not put all the prizes up here but I will let you know as soon as the site is up dated but we have a lot there is €4000 prize fund. The entries are limited to 250 as it is our first year back. But people are starting to realise it is on now so it is getting a lot of interest.
Also thanks for the TI site info this has been brought to my attention by a lot of people so I will get onto it straight away...Thanks again let everyone know

    anyone else here doin' this?

    Just reading the race briefing and transition area rules and it says ;

Competitors must not use any device to mark their position in transition. The referee/race marshals will remove any device or marker and a penalty may be applied.

    Is this the norm ??

If I stick a rain jacket underneath my saddle to protect it from getting scratched in transition I would hardly be penalised would I ??!!

    Hi Poncherello.
They're normally talking about someone marking the ground with a logo or symbol so they can find their bike.

    Hi,
I'm very interested in doing a triathlon but it's looking like it'll be next year.. (I need to get a bike for starters!) and i need to improve my training. I run about 15-20k a week and pool swim twice a week.

So on that.. I am very interested in following the triathlon in Rosses point on Sunday and would like to know what time it starts?

If someone could let me know.. Thank you

    Hey Jellypops,

the Triathlon in Rosses Point starts at 10am on Sunday morning, would be worth your while being in Rosses point around 915 to see the build up. A great place to watch the swim would be from the top car park

70 hrs after the event. well that's poor IMO. Takes the excitement out of it.

    Results available.

Great event, but personally diastrous swim as managed to swallow a little too much of the Atlantic on the swim, which came back to haunt me on the run with stomach cramps.

Strong bike leg is the only saving grace.
