    Hi,

I've just joined Carlisle, can anyone tell me if you get free instruction or if you have to pay extra for that? And would I have to book it in advance or just ask an instructor on the day?

    TIA

Did you try phoning them and asking?

Zamboni, I have access to the internet today but not a phone. I decided to ask here instead as Carlisle don't have a website.

Some advice to you: posts like yours do not add anything useful to discussion boards, instead they needlessly clutter the boards, as well as taking discussions off topic

Some advice to you: When you join a gym and pay an annual fee, know what you are paying for in advance.

Cats Pyjamas, If you want to book a personal training session you do need to book in advance. A session costs about €60, although they do deals if you pay for a few in bulk. I can't tell you how long you're likely to be waiting though as it depends how busy the trainer is. These days you probably won't need to wait more than a few days. My OH would recommend Justin. :)

That's with the personal trainers who work within the gym. There are other trainers there too who work for the Carlisle and you can ceertainly ask them for assistance but if you're looking for something more specialist, you would be better off booking a session with a trainer, if you can.

It is a bit cr@p that they don't have a website. Would be so handy even if just for things like opening hours, class timetables and membership options. But ideally with an intranet so you could log in and access your Personal Training schedule, even track your progress over time.

Thanks PurpleBerry for your reply, it really helps me out. I agree with you that an intranet would be great - though a basic webpage would also be welcome!

You can ask any of the gym staff for a programme at any time. Look out for a black haired chap, about 5 ft 9/10 and well built, as he is the only one (from what I have seen) who doesnt give out the generic machine programmes. Iv been a member here since day one and in my opinion I wouldn't be recommending any of the personal trainers in there as most of the programmes are absolutely horrendous and revolve around cable machines. I have never ever seen someone with a personal trainer doing either a squat or deadlift.

Do a bit of research on the net for particular routines and exercises and use youtube for demonstrations etc..

Thanks Pugmister. I think I'll scope out the instructors a bit before approaching one, see if I can spot the guy you mention, and then supplement whatever program they give with research of my own. Thanks again.

I dont usually bother posting on here but if it helps im pretty sure hes talking about Jack.
Also ive seen people with personal trainers doing both squats AND deadlifts. The quality definately varies though.

I've been working with one of the Personal trainers in the Carlisle for the past 5 months. I can guarantee that he has put me through my paces. I do squats and dead-lifts and lots of other new stuff on a weekly basis with my trainer. And my PT changes my routine every few weeks which keeps me interested.

I have been going to the gym for years but became bored, the lad that I'm working with has given me a new enthusiasm and actually helped me improve on my body and drop my body fat by 6% whilst increasing my muscle mass.

I don't know what the other lads are like but I am getting the results that I want from my guy.
