    :Dhi people.
i have a sierra usb modem with o2, i have windows xp on my laptop and i want to play my ps3 online. loads of people have said that it can be done no problem but ive tried everything.
ive tried internet connection sharing with my LAN and thats fine but when i try to test the connection on the ps3 i can obtain an IP address no problem and it says succeeded then it goes on to search for an internet connection but no joy.

    any ideas???

ive watched videos on youtube and when they are testing their connection the list goes:

    IP address: succeded
    internet connection: succeeded
    psn network: succeeded
    upnp:failed
    nat: succeeded nat 2

or something like that. but my list only says:

    IP address-succeeded
    internet connection- failed (timed out)

it doesnt have the rest of the list like psn network, etc.

look im not a techie and i dont know much about computers but if someone knows how to help me id really appreciate it and it would mean a lot and a simple step by step guide would be brilliant

    thanks

Are there 2 LAN connections in your Networks, 'Local Area Connection' and '1394 connection' ?

Are you using a cable between the Pc and PS3?

It looks like your on a local network and you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing to the PS3.

I'm not sure if the PS3 supports this or your Sierra connection.

If all else fails, you get something like the Dovado router and it would turn your mobile BB into a wireless network so that you don't have any messing to do. check to make sure your model of Mobile BB modem is compatible with the router though.

yeah im using a cable from laptop to ps3 and when i go to my network options it will allow me to enable internet sharing but the ps3 doesnt seem to recognise it although it can pick up an ip address no problem but it wont connect to the internet on the ps3.

i was looking at the dovado router aswell and i think it would be the best option like. wonder would the ps3 recognise it though???

keep me posted if you come up with any other ideas

    nice one mate cheers

Dovado Router will work with PS3 as a wireless router as PS3 uses the same standard WiFi your Pc most likely uses.

You could see if it is a problem with your firewall and just turn it off for the connection between the Pc and the PS3 as it is a local network so there are no real risks. this eliminates the firewall as a problem.

I used to use this type of connection on 360 before I got the wireless adapter.

I used to setup the IP addresses manually. I would set 192.168.0.1 on the Pc and 192.168.0.2 on the PS3 and enter the Pc's 0.1 address for the gateway.

Used to work if I was having problems. This usually means your Pc is not using DHCP properly I guess which normally automatically assigns IP addresses. ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) is dodgy at best from my experience and after a while will drive you mad setting it up and you'll end up buying a router just to keep yourself sane.

The Dovado seems like a good choice for this as they have a thread on boards for problems encountered and seem to offer good support.

+1 for dovado ... I have one o2 usb modem in the office here and its shared between 1 to 5 people from time to time.

V3 of the firmware has made some very nice changes too :)
