I brought the dog out flushing rabbits last sunday. All went well, but iv since been told that if i keep bringing him flushing rabbits he wont smell out pheasants etc because rabbit smell is stronger and they'l loose interest. Is this true?

I don't have direct experience with springers but I haven't heard that about any dog. I have mostly had pointers and setters and I have found that whatever their first set is on, that is what the will always be 'best' on and seem to be able to draw from a further distance than other game.
I'm told that grouse have by far the strongest scent of any game bird so by the above logic, birds trained on grouse would be less inclined to point say pheasant or snipe. That doesn't seem to be the case though.
