    Hi,

I bought one of those oil extraction pumps on Ebay and the smaller tube/pipe that came with it wont fit more than an inch inside the Dipstick tube

I need to find a piece of tubing that will reach the oil sump and fit within the Dipstick pipe. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    John

I hate those things, there is no way they will remove the really bad gunk at the very bottom of your sump, they are simply designed to make it easier and cleaner to change the oil. It's the old fashioned way for me.

    Sorry OP! :o

Any decent factors will sell thin flexible tubing.

It's not one of those "AmTech" ones is it? One of the neighbours bought on & it looked crap compared to some other versions. His didn't work either due to it not being able to seal properly to create a vacuum.

I think they are more for removing overfilled oil SD

That makes sense, but I've seen mechanics use them for full oil changes.

Thanks, will check them out at the weekend.

Yeah it is, and you're right, it's pretty flimsy but I wasnt expecting much for €20.

I made sh*t of the sump plug on my car and don't think I'll be able to get it off without great difficulty... Far far more difficulty than getting this pump to work!

You'll also find silicone tubing of varying diameter in most petshops if thats closer to home, used for siphoning from tanks or ponds.

Very very good idea, and there just happens to be one up the road. Thank you very much! :)

You should look up the price of a new sump plug. They should be pretty cheap. Best of luck with your alternative plan though.

Yeah, that would only be a few euro. But I basically made a balls of trying to open it before by using a spanner instead of a ratchet, and turning it the wrong way (Lefty Loosey depends on which angle you look at it from!).

The plug isnt leaking, it's just been rounded so will be very hard to remove :(

No problem, just struck me to add that you'll also possibly find siphoning kits, but unless theres some heavy duty pond version they probably won't cope well with oil...

There are probably a number of things you could do to get the plug out. Eg tap it with a chisel till it turns. I have seen this done on a broken wheel bolt where there was no more than about 2 mm of the shaft sticking out of the hub.

Another good idea! You're on a roll my friend, take a wild guess at this weeks lottery numbers will ya? ;)

Could I not break the plug entirely by doing that?

Weld another sound nut to the rounded one. It works.

In all fairness, if I made such a balls of removing the sump plug how do you think I'll fair at welding? :P

You shouldn't go within 100 yards of it!!!!!!!

A new sump plug and washer costs maybe €5 and maybe €30 plus oil and filter to get that done (by a pro) :D

If the sump is alloy,I wouldn,t try the chisel or you may end up getting the oil out easy enough through a big hole in the sump.frown.gifeek.gif

You would wonder how they would approach an engine rebuild then!

I'm not lying, a friend of mine got charged 180 euro for to change a sump nut and washer. The invoice read "Washer - 30c Bolt -1.40 Labour €178" LOL! Apparently they were diagnosing a leak, ie. a loose sump nut.

Surely a vice grips would sort the Sump Plug out. Buy a new one first though obviuosly :).
