Would anyone be able to assist me in explaining how I can go about getting tested for this. I know most GP's will not do this routinely so I don't mind doing it privately or through a lab directly. I will also speak to my GP but would like some information beforehand.

If a GP is not sure how to do something, they will always refer to a specialist for their opinion.

But seeing a GP first is the best step because they can look at the whole picture and see if there is something else entirely going on.
