To Re-Reg Or Not

Hey guys, hoping for a little advice on whether to rereg my Irish car in the UK.

I own a 2002 MGTF, bought in July 2007 for 10k. I now live in London and the car is sitting on my parent's drive in Dublin doing nothing. I had hoped to sell it in Ireland but as you're no doubt aware the arse has well and truly fallen out of the used car market. I had it on carzone for a couple of months but had no interest. There was another TF of same year and spec that literally halved its price and still wasn't shifting. I'm not in desperate need of the cash so I don't really fancy trying to offload it at a huge discount however I do realise I have to be realistic about what the car is actually worth despite what I might have paid for it.

So my other option seems to be to bring it over to London. I live fairly centrally so I have a limited need for the car but it seems better than it literally not moving from my parent's house for weeks on end. I have on street parking outside and the insurance isn't prohibitively expensive which is something. However looking on Auto Trader over here similar TFs go for about £3k which just seems very very low to me.

So I guess my question is, would you:

    a) Cut your losses and sell at whatever price shifts it in Ireland
    b) Bring to the UK, re-reg it and immediately reduce its resale value to about £3k

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

if you sell the car here in ireland you are going to lose a lot of money, I would say you would only get around €5K for it,
and if you bring it to the UK you get £3k sterling...
neither seems like a good option...
if it was me, I would bring it to the uk, re-reg it and keep it...
if you ever bring it back to ireland, you can re-reg it back to the orignal plate and don't have to pay VRT on it again...

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

It's still a nice car - keep it and bring it with you :)

The running costs won't be huge and you've got parking. If it's worth £3k now, it won't depreciate much further either.

    Enjoy the weekend trips :D
