    Guys,

Basically one or the other above - Thursday though to Monday in June - looking for the best nightlife, good food, general craic! Would like to get some brief touristy stuff in during the day, nothing to hectic.. Any opinions??

    Thanks

    another one for barca

madrid is a great city with excellent dining and nightlife (though friday and saturday the main nights for pubs and clubs), but barcelona has a beach, only an hour from a world class themepark (port adventura). just as much to see and do in barcelona as madrid

Been to both and I'd also give Barca the thumbs up over Madrid. The capital is still an excellent city but because of Barca's proximity to the beach and the time of year you are going then I'd say its a no brainer.

Heading to Barca myself in May. Just wondering if any of you who have been there can recommend any good pubs/clubs? Only going for 3 nights so don't want to have to waste much time searching!:)

Madrid is better as you dont expect as much. Barcelona gets so much hype but Madrid is a pleasant surprise and in June will be baking

They are both fabulous cities but in all honesty Madrid in June can be like a furnace. Barcelona for the beach ;)

    Madrid, or even better: Salamanca.

Barcelona is a more attractive city but Madrid's nightlife is unparalleled. La Marcha Madrilena is world famous. For craic it has to be Madrid, for things to see probably Barcelona

I'd agree with greendom on everything. Depends what kind of touristy stuff you're into. If it's museums Madrid wins hands down. The nightlife is definitley better in Madrid but if like most people you like the idea of the beach you've obviously got to go with Barcelona. You're laughin either way!

You'll go to Barcelona once, see and do everything and have a great time... but you'll keep returning to Madrid for years. They are two very different cities and offer two completely different experiences. Either way you'll have a great time.
My advice is to go to Barcelona while you're young. Get it out of you're system. Leave Madrid til later. You'll appreciate it better after being to Barca.

Madrid is a great city with amazing nightlife, architecture, food and people. Loved it. Can't comment on Barca but all reports are good. Be alert all the time pick pocketing is rampant in both!
