Too fly you need to do a cadetship, which to do you need the LC.Even with that it is like a lottery when it comes to getting in.I am not sure what the story is with the ground crew though.

    Hope that helps.

Not to mention the freeze on all public service recruitment until the end of 2010.

No Leaving, no chance. Sorry. You left it a bit late. As LW says it was always tough to get in. More people win the lottery every year. They're not taking cadets right now anyway.

If you really want to be a professional pilot you'll have to do it the hard way and pay for it yourself. Have you got a handy €60k to €95k?:(

Considering at the moment your chances are 0 they can only improve. To get a cadetship you MUST to have your Leaving Cert done.

If your Out of work why not make the best of a Bad situation and do your Leaving Cert? You have nothing to lose.

I'm afraid so. When they do run competitions, they're fiercely contended, and they haven't run one in a couple of years. This year looks to be no exception.

If you really want it, look at the entry requirements for the last intake, and see what you need to do to qualify.

VTOS or what ever its called now. If your out of work and this is your plan you'll need the leaving cert. At 23 you are an ideal mature student get in contact with your local Tech or citizens advice centre. Education is never a waste of time.

One thing, if you're interested in becoming an officer and or pilot. Give up writing in text speak.

I think it's all academic anyway as I believe the age limit is 22 unless you've had military service. Which you'll never get because there is no recruitment. I think you can safely forget about that idea.

I have a feeling they won't be needing so many pilots soon anyway. The Air Corps is overdue for some serious cuts. I cannot see it staying in it's present form, particularly if the government changes as it will.

There was no Air Corps intake last year, so there's no info in there about the height/eyesight restrictions for them, but I think the education requirements are the same. You could also call the Competitions section.

Just be realistic. Your chances are not good, particularly since by the time they take in more pilots, you could be over the age limit.

Considered the British Army Air Corp?

    Maybe not ideal but:
On promotion to Lance Corporal and with recommendations for Corporal individuals can apply for pilot training, and will be encouraged to do so. No formal academic qualifications are required for this; individuals have to pass the selection and interviews process, medical examinations, aptitude and flying grading training.

Know this is a bit off topic but what would you generally be doing once a qualified air corp cadet?

    Thanks for the info.
