bump to also ask about size.im 6'2 so is 58cm frame ok for me?bigger/smaller?regards

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭RobFowl

Of that lot the focus and banchi have better specs. Tiagra is the minimum I'd go for .
Would you consider second hand, there are quite a few nice ones on adverts.ie including this one which is mostly 105

    http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=104080&cat=52

58 should be ok although each manufacturer's sizing is a bit different

thanks for the reply. I certainly would consider second hand. That bike however is more expensive then any of the new bikes i listed.bit too much for my budget

probably remove both focuses from the list as one is out of stock and the other ends up nearly 800 after delivery.not including pedals and shoes.
    chainreactions has free delivery

I just want to give a thumbs up to cube. I have the 2007 streamer and find it an excellent bike (not that I can compare it against anything I suppose).

thanks man.yeah i like the look of the cube, and the specs look solid.prob the best of the bunch.free express delivery to boot.anyone else have anything to add.

did have a bad experience with chainreactions before, but feel it was an isolated incident and am willing to give them another shot

That cube does look nice but do you really need a triple ???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 61 ✭✭FOLDnoSHOW

is there any harm in having a triple?

No harm but its usually for use in very hilly events like the W200 though. Wouldn't be my choice for a bike to race triathlons on.
It also leaves you with lowish top gears as well.

Pretty decent bike for the money here. A size 58 will be perfect for you on this bike. It has a sloping top tube. I ride a specialized in a 58 and I am almost 6'3.

    imo:

I would never use my racer for commuting to college nor I would use my commuter to race.

    - Racer for commuting to college won't last long, it will get stolen, or kicked, or left outside under the rain and rot to death while you're in class ...

Were you never a poor broke student, living off baked beans (cassulet) and not in possession of the minimum 4/5/6/7/8/9 bikes every one here seems to own

I was too poor to afford college, I worked and put me through college as an adult. I am almost 30 now, i am allowed to be an moan if I want to :p

my bike will be well cared for..got inside, secure storage in college (good connections lol) also def cant afford more then 1 bike..fwiw, im actually graduating soon so it really wont be a commuter for long.its main purpose will be tri's and recreation.Im really liking the cube..and from my limited knowledge the components look better than the specialized, and just a sniff more expensive. am I being foolish here? are some of the other bikes glaringly better or is it a much of a muchness

note did some sprint tri's on a be-one briza last summer and found it fine, and thats a fair bit off standard than these bikes

At this level it is all much of a muchness. Alot of us here have personal preferences and use bikes for different things. Pretty much all the bikes listed above are decent enough.

well for a little more than your budget you could get this one

The full Spec of the Allez can be seen from here, In my opinion, there is nothing between that and the cube. I dont think there are pedals with the cube, bear that in mind also.

For that money you will be hard pushed to find better value

Personally, the Cube or the Specialized.

emailed bike rack just there and got this as a response..

We would have two bikes available to suit your budget. The Giant Defy 3 and the Merida road race 901, we could supply both of these with shimano pedals and shoes for €800. Both bikes are retailing for €745.

They are both quite decent bikes, Sora components seems to be what you'll get new at this price range. The Giant has a good rep but IMO the merida looks nicer

I was in a similar position to the OP (looking for a 'decent' bike to also commute on) a year or two ago and ended up getting the '07 Allez with a double. Haven't looked back since (except the odd time in traffic...)

btw I'm 6'2 and the 58cm frame seems spot on for me too, but obviously it's best to try before you buy.
