There was around 140,000 millionaires in Ireland in 2007 iirc (can't provide link) and at the time almost 300 to 400K wannabe millionaires where the value of their property or land sent their wealth over the 1 million mark, this figure would be well down now as most people did not liquidate their assets into cold raw cash! Most of Ireland's millionaires were created either through property sales through the bubble or else via the National Lottery, that hard working Business Man in the Merc actually dosen't have all the much cash floating around and more likely has -1million debt with the Merc as a tool of his trade, (you not exactly going to show up to a high powered exec meeting in a Datsun cherry:D).

Times are a changing and expect less millions and more billions as the rich consolidate and the noveu rich get liquidated, basically the wealth will get concentrated in those more successful hands than having it knocking around in a quasi Socialism of 140,000 peoples hands. It looked like during the boom for a bit that a Socialist dystopia would be achived as we all grew richer of borrowed money.... then we woke up and realised it was not a nightmare but reality and we have been taking sleeping pills and coffee since and sleepwalked into the current mess we are in now.
