once of payment grant

    hi all,

    i be moving into my new house (council house)
    next month,
    and was told about a once of grant that you be entitled to major events in your life eg new house, communion, funeral etc

    can anyone shed any light on this or maybe how much would i get to furnisure it,
    me and 2 kids in a 3 bed house..

    or do you think the early budjet cud have a impact on it

    Hi Rio-rose.
    Yes there is help available under supplementary welfare allowance, from your local community welfare officer, if you are eligible.
    If you visit your CWO they will give you a form to fill in and tell you what you can claim for.
    The amount varies depending on what the cwo decides you need. They usually give you money TOWARDS the cost of white goods, beds, sofa,carpets for certain rooms, curtains and possibly various other items if needed like pots and pans etc.
