    Hey folks,

I haven't seen a thread on this, and I figure there's a few people on boards that watch it weekly, so might as well have a place to talk about it !

Each episode is usually uploaded to YouTube within hours of it being aired (Friday nights), so that's where I watch it :p They're taken down eventually, but if you watch on Saturday you should be good

I shalln't be linking to it though :D

Anyways, what ye think of Friday's ep? Thought it was a bit poor myself ! Can't stand that rapper guy, had to skip alot of the panel talk because of him :( Anyone else prefer the 3 person panel btw?

Chris Hitchens was tame enough really, but I love when he's on the show!

The interviewee wasn't very interesting either

hmmmm, must do better next week :D New Rules was pretty good at least

Love the show, but do think it's much better with a 3 person panel. Thought Mos Def was OK for the celebrity panelist, but speaking over Rushdie and Hitchens is a bit ridiculous.

    gods damnit, hitchens was on?

I used to be a big fan of Real time, but lately (just before obama and of course during obama) the show has become a serious progressive echo chamber. The quality of the guests and the discussion has dropped, i was only getting it every saturday out of habit and the one week I manage to break the cycle and didn't even think to look for it they have hitchens on.

a thank you, for reminding me.

bill maher did a documentary called religulous. It was very funny I thought. It might be a bit offensive to some religious people I guess though.

last nights was pretty good, there was at least some serious disagreement in the panel and the glenn beck/new rules bit was hilarious.

It's hard to believe that Real Time is running for nearly ten years and it's as funny as ever.

True enough, but it's a pretty solid formula really! ABC were idiots for cancelling Politically Incorrect

The raging liberal in me loves it...he's the polar opposite of someone like O'Reilly.

However he does take a pop at the democrats every now and again.

I dont actually watch it, theres an audio podcast of the show on iTunes, makes good listening

My favourite Bill Maher moment was when the late Christopher Hitchens (my idol) walked on with a generously filled glass of Jonnie Walker.

    Mahers reaction was priceless.

Probably my favourite Hitch moment too.

Just watching this week's Real Time. He has Dinesh D'Souza on at the start, and he destroys him on every point - it's great! :D

Ha, he didn't hold back with him alright. Sounded like he'd been waiting for that opportunity for about 10 years!

Abby Martin from the RT news channel is getting a lot of attention after she gave her opinion on Bill Maher in a five minute segment on her show a few days ago.

It's available as a podcast too, if anybody's interested in the listening, but not bothered about the watching.

I've been listening to the podcast for a few months. I think the weakest part is usually the opening monologue, which seems a little over-written, and at other points there are a few low blows, which seem to be just for applause, but all that's par for the course, tbh. I think the main strength is that the show is entertaining, and Bill actually facilitates interesting debate.

The monologue is getting a bit crap yeah. More often than not the audience "oo"s or is uneasy about a couple of jokes, and Bill gets hostile at them. He seems to hate the studio audience, said in a recent show "we do this for the people watching at home"!

The panel discussion on the latest show was excellent, Dan Savage is brilliant!

I usually see who the contributors are, before deciding whether to watch or not.

Listen to the podcast as well.

I think probably the best part is the opening interview where there does seem to some sort of conversation.

The panel is far too often a tedious shouting match between Democratic and Republican. There was one show a while back where he apologised mid-show for letting it get too bad. It'd be far better to have all three guests from the one side each show.

that's why I stopped watching it. after obama won, week after week it was a giant leftie **** orgy. it got so tiresome.

I dunno. I thought the past couple of shows had ample guests from a Republican background - economically, policy wise, etc. Didn't really seem like a platform for Obama fanboys, and Bill's no fan of the Democrats, anyway.

When there's a mix of either side, no-one ever seems to get past a superficial point before someone shouts in against it. There's not much development of an argument.
