replacing cracked screen

The screen on my dell inspiron 6400 is cracked. Damn.

How much does it typically cost to replace a laptop screen?
What repair companys do screen repairs?
Is there anywhere in cork or tralee that does it?

Dell will charge you ~350€ ex vat.

parts-people.com do the full range of Dell components for nearly all laptops. I completely refurbished my 8600c I use for work for hardly anything. If you get the parts, it's pretty simple to replace the screen.

You would buy a spurious replacement screen on Ebay for about e70 plus postage, as NED said, simple to replace, just be very careful fitting the slimline ribbon cable to the top of the screen. (There is also a small white inverter plug) It would take you about 15 minutes at the most with a small Philip's. You have to remove the small rubbers that cover over the scews that surround the screen. I dont know how Dell justifies their prices.

Really? tempted to have a go at replacing it myslef so.
350€ seems ridiculous alright.

Yeah, its simple enough to replace the screen yourself. And I don't know why you wouldn't at least try, when all these laptop companies charge twice what it costs to do it yourself, you could always just buy spares

Installed it today, no problems, screen looks better than ever!
