would greco roman wrestling be the best form of wrestling i.e for controling stand up grappling in order to take somebody to the ground. or would there be a better form of controling a person for the take down and the stand up

Basically 3 types of wrestling that are useful "for controling stand up grappling in order to take somebody to the ground".

    Judo
    Greco-roman
Freestyle (including the wrestling they do in america here).

They all do it very well and each is specialised in its own way to deal with certain scenarios better than others.

So to answer your question (which is vague) Greco-roman definitely could be the best. If you trained in a club and learned Greco with a good coach and training partners 3 times a week for 3 years you'd be pretty good and controlling the stand up in order to take someone to the ground.

Greco is great but I think if you're Irish, Judo is probably your best bet due to the amount of clubs and experience.
