Yeah, not really been posting here much, I guess I've just managed to completely and utterly duck the gas bug, but I saw something today that made me raise an eyebrow and get that old familiar sensation back. Agile 8 strings.

    Or more specifically, this one.

This one looks rather tasty too.

And I had gone so long without temptation. :o

Must be no sign of a Music Man 8 string !!!

Ibanez have a 8 string thang out too. Might not be all that expensive.

How much is that bad boy all in....??

Agile are doing an 8 string with a US Kahler soon. Rondo are taking pre-orders for em at the moment.

So this isn't a thread about a dodgy curry? :pac:

Seriously though, the second guitar you posted (with the green finish) looks much nicer to me than the first one.

They don't seem too expensive either. The total for the Agile Intrepid Dual Oceanburst Standard 8, excluding customs, works out at $718.82 or €540.85.

I really like those 8 strings. I was going to get one from the first batch but I decided to wait for a later order in case there was an quality control issues from that initial run. Then they were sold out when I was going to order one from the 2nd run. Now I don't have the cash handy for one.
I'd say I'll have one ordered before the end of the year though. I really want to try out the 8 string thing. I'm totally sold on 7 strings and I have another guitar tuned in fifths from F to E so I'm pretty sure 8 strings are down my alley.

Don't think I'd want a Music Man 8 to be honest, it would probably be astoundingly expensive. Hell, I wouldn't even buy the Ibanez 8 string at the prices they're going for. I think a lot of the interest in any new guitars just drifted away once I got my green JP7, and while the idea of an 8 string still interests me, I just wouldn't splash out on one these days, I'm just really at home with 7 so I'm not entirely sure about it. But a budget 8 string like the above? Yeah, that's tickling my fancy.

No idea about the price altogether, I've not done the figures on customs or the like.

Nah, nothing to do with a dodgy curry at all. ;)

    I like them both.

The Ibanez RG2228 is for sale on GAK for €1,455.51. There's a few on EBay for around €1,000 to €1,300.

It is certainly a big increase in price over the Agile guitars!

The fret dots don't really do it for me either :). I also think that, like a seven string guitar, you might have to play it (or something close to it) first to get a feel for the wider neck.

I gave in to some Ibanez related GAS today, got an SR700, sexy little beast :D Some piccys in the gear thread later ^^ have my bass rig sorted now, all thats left is a 72 deluxe tele and I'm set for life (a few weeks anyway).

Those agile look class! Love the finish on them, sooo purty :pac:

Actually in College right now in a lab beside him, and he's got it with him. I think I'll take it out now to mess around on.

This is me, he's on about. It's realy REALLY nice to play, I have the natural pro with just the bridge pick-up. Highly recommended, it was my first 8 so price wise it doesn't get much better if you're scared to take the plunge. Also, the resell value on them is great cos they only do them in runs every six months or so.

The guitarists from Meshuggah use 8 stringed guitars, if anyone's interested in musical applications. I know they're used in other form, classical I think.

Mmm, looks quite nice. Think I prefer the look of the Agile ones, but the Schecter is indeed tempting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭darrenw5094

Nope....the Schecter is the best looking of the 3 options. Fact !

Might be of interest to some that they are taking preorders for the next batch of 8 strings. Half now, half in Oct.

A friend of mine bought one of these on adverts not so long ago and until this day he never stops raving about it. He said he will never ever change this guitar and he actualy got it for €600 bargain if I say so myself

I know possibilities are endless , but what way do you tune an 8 string?

I ordered a 2 pickup bolt-on standard Interpid the other day. It should be shipping in October. I can't wait for it to come. I'm a bit worried the neck width might be just too much for normal playing for me, my 7's can get a little tiring if I play them for a long time. I'm fairly sure I'll tune it drop E so it'll be EBEADGBE

Jaysus youd nearly want a bass cab for that much low end!!

I'm thinking of using a stereo power amp with one output going into a guitar cab and the other one going into a PA speaker so I get a mix of full range speaker for the low end while keeping the normal guitar voicing.
I'm going to try it out with a downtuned seven string first and see if it sounds any good.

Good idea with the pa speaker to keep the voicing the same i must say.
