Jesus, I turn my back for a couple of hours and look what happens.

W106, thanks for the concern but there is actually nothing wrong with your post in the slightest. In fact, the only thing I find worrying is that a certain candidate deserves such a post when running for a position such as SU President.

aDeener, I really do hope you were being sarcastic when you mentioned pissing the "computer dudes" off. As I've explained before, voting for a certain candidate who is cleary unsuitable for the role just to annoy other students in DCU is one of the most counterproductive actions in this context I can imagine.

Regarding the issue of the nurses, I'd be extremely disappointed if the nurses were merely voting for a certain candidate that can "bring the craic" or if they were simply not voting at all. This is especially true when you consider that their faculty has had some of the most serious problems of any faculty in DCU in recent times and it is the SU President (along with other exec members) that will be working to try and get their problems resolved.
You also have the fact that one of their own, Leeanne, is running in the election for a position which would hold an almost equal amount of sway in any dialog with the Faculty, thus they should at least try and cast their votes if possible.

TheDeparted, while I could reply to each of your ridiculous points individually I think it would be more constructive to simply repeat some of what I said to another poster earlier. While I do find your posts vaguely amusing, they are however, completely unconstructive and, to be quite honest, nonsensical. You're either posting in this manner to get a reaction out of people or because you are completely clueless to the current situation. Either way, change your attitude or stop posting in here, thanks.

Finally, a reminder to the rest of the posters, please try not to comment too much on your perceived view of the mental state of other users. Some of them have been charter breaking and hence been deleted whereas others have been close enough to the line as to earn the raising of an eyebrow. Try keeping the discussion to the issue of the elections in the future and the discussion can continued unimpeded.

You've just listen the reasons why I hope he wins, he's not a freak. The anthrax is also pretty hilarious:D

Like, lodging complaints, with some ridiculous group of losers no doubt, over chanting 'who are are you?' shows how thin skinned and frankly, pathetic some candidates are.

If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, don't go moaning to some committee or another.

As university students who's generation will one day help mould and shape our country and who are taking part in what is their first step out of childhood it is always nice to see an opinion like this. It shows that while people may have grown out of secondary school and into that of higher third level education their actual minds have faltered an fallen back, resembling that of a child making their first steps into secondary school.

When people say the voting age, and even the drinking age, should be raised it is the opinions like those above which lay weight to their claims. You see, its the fact that with comments like that that you show a complete lack of understanding of the adult world in which you are expected to now be taking part in. You show a complete lack of foresight as to the actions that may result from your clear inability to be able to inform yourself on a matter which would truly effect both you and your fellow student population. Your thoughts quite frankly scary when you think that you get to now vote in matters on a national and international stage which require careful thinking and foresight as to the actions of the outcome.

However I think it shows something even far worse. That the candidate in question is actively taking part and condoning the running of a large and very serious event in such an unintelligent, immoral, childish and unlawful manner. You must take into account that these are the actions of someone who (if they were to win) is suppose to be the voice and face for the 8,000 or more students of the college. Someone who's actions show that the respect no set out rules or boundary's and publicly discriminates students. His actions paint a picture of someone who is incapable of making a decision which will benefit anyone but themselves, incapable of acting within the confines of basic rules and regulations clearly set out and provided, someone who supports the lowering of an institution to levels that would be detrimental to that of the general student and staff populous.

For the students in DCU I hope you enjoyed the last few weeks. The SU elections provide a great building ground to show the staff and heads of DCU that not only are you passing your exams but you are truly learning and gaining the ability to make informed decisions based on facts, be able to see the foresight and outcomes of decisions an also to take the responsibily of not just yourselves but of the fresh wave of new students who will be joining in September. I hope you voted with the maturity you should have gained from goin to college and not the retarded inner child, shown above, which paints so many of you with a tarnished brush.

If a candidate, who's primary thought is not that of the thousands of students who will look to him for guidance and staff who will look to him as a mediator and representative of those thousands of voices but how well his foot will kick in the upcoming match, wins this election I feel sorry for the two excellent opponents (as they had so much to give and so much they could have achieved) and sorry for the students, who will have to bore the brunt of not actually having a responsible adult at the helm.

Good luck to those of you counting tonight.

Looks like mortimers supporters have really given his campaign that gloss of respectability that he exuded in the debates

In relation to who the nurses are voting for probably only voting in the Beaumont hospital elections :( at the moment there's 3 years of nurses out on clinical placement which means there's only approx 200 nurses to vote

congrats to all the conveners that have been elected

Typically, each candidate is allowed bring 2 representatives to the count, but I'm not sure whether that applies to the entire count or just the part after they lock the HUB after midnight...

don't be silly, the only person who rules DCU is Martin Conroy and that isn't going to change any time soon...

    Al won. Thank ****.

Education and Welfare was won by John Murphy by just 3 votes over Mark, there's a recount coming at some point today though to confirm.

Campaigns and Information was won by Melanie but that's also going to be subject to a recount.

    Viva la Al!
I'm hoping there's still hope for Andrew Harford to get in though!

I said last night I'd have very little respect for this college if we voted in Mortimer, well I was proven wrong! Well done, we've proven we have common sense :)

    Congrats Alan!!

any chance we can get official results for pres?!?!

Official results are difficult to find. In an empty SU with 2 sleeping people.

    Alan 800,
    Cillian 600,
Mortimer 400 (1st round knocked out)

Excellent election. Everyone who got in really deserved it. Thankfully, the students saw the light and sent Mortimer back to work in the quarries.

Glad Alan got in, either himself or Cillian would be great in the position...Thankfully the college showed common sense by not electing Mr. Mortimer -> Megaphone and all...

Recount coming and I hope Mark Egan can take Education and Welfare...

Recount also coming and I hope Andrew takes Campaign & Information - he performed the best at the hustings, best on the radio debate and had the clearest, most realistic manifesto...

whoever updated the guy's wikipedia entry today was pretty spiteful though. no need to kick the guy when he is down!

whatever about a gap of 7 votes being closed on a recount, it would be pretty shocking if a gap of 70 votes was closed.
