INTRODUCTION:
With the rise in popularity of the FIFA series once again, a decision was make to create a league system for the members of the Boards.ie website. Since its conception, the league has entertained over 50 different players and this number is set to increase over the coming year.

OUTLINE:
The league has been designed from the ground up to ensure that the vast majority of games are a close match. The league is divided into 2 separate leagues...

The Premiership
The Championship

Teams are unique, therefore there can only be one Mancherster United and one Chelsea etc


QUALIFYING:
One of the easiest way for a league to fall into disarray is to allow unsporting players to join. Also, some players may lose interest after suffering a number of losses early in the campaign and fail to finish their fixtures. In order to prevent this from occurring in the Boards leagues, every player must first compete in a Qualifying League. This league will run in tandem with the official leagues, but will be exist as a standalone entity. Players will be assessed on a number of criteria including their ability to complete games in a timely manner, their disciplinary record and their overall skill. The Qualifying League has no fixture list, and therefore the onus is on each player to make the effort to arrange their own games with fellow players.

Once the Qualifying League has concluded, suitable players will be ranked based on the aforementioned factors and will be assigned to one of the 4 leagues. The choice between the English league and the Italian system is random, however, you will be assigned to either the higher or lower league based on skill.

Once players have been assigned, they will be entered into the Team Selection system (explained below). However, the newer teams entering the leagues will be at a small disadvantage as they will have last pick in their new division. The reason for this is that, if a truely top player wins the qualifying league and gets to choose a more powerful team than what they would be able to pick had they been in the league from the start, they would receive an unfair advantage. Once the new players have played 1 season, they will then be able to choose based on overall skill.

TEAM SELECTION:
The league has been designed that the English, Italian and Qualifying leagues all complete at the same time. The players who are entered into the English and Italian leagues are then asked to choose a European Club team based on a predetermined order...

1) Existing Championship rated from worst to best.
2) New Championshiprated from worst to best.
3) Existing Premiership rated from worst to best.
4) New Premiership rated from worst to best.

Because these choices can be held up by players not realising they have to choose, a week will be designated where all the picks are made.


LEAGUE FORMAT
Each team will each other team twice. Each game consists of 2 x 7 minute halves. The fixtures will be posted at the start of the season and the fixtures will be divided into a number of gameweeks. Currently, there are 3 fixtures per week. Players must ensure that they complete their fixture list by the end of the gameweek. You may contact opponents via Boards or on Xbox Live.

At the end of each game, make a note of the result and post them in the Results thread. These results will be added to the main result post and league tables will be updated on a regular basis.


END OF SEASON
At the end of every season, 3 teams from the top division will be relegated to the lower divisions and 3 teams from the bottom division will get promoted to the top divisions. Also, 1 other team from the top and bottom leagues will be randomly selected toswitch places with the players from the corresponsing league who finished in the same place. For example, 4th place from the top leagues and 5th place from the bottom leagues are selected. The players who finished in these positions will take each other place. This ensures that we have new fixtures each season.

In addition, players who finish high enough in their leagues will qualify for the Champions League and Europa Cup competitions. This feature will be implemented as soon as we have 4 leagues of equal number of players (to ensure fairness. The purpose of the European cups is to ensure that players from the the English and Italian leagues get a chance to face each other.


RULES
In order to maintain the league, a number of rules have been laid out. Any violations of this code of conduct can be sent to the league coordinator (futureguy) and each violation will be investigated.

1) Disconnections
No player is allowed to intentionally disconnect for any reason. Any disconnections during a league game must be made known to the league coordinator (futureguy). However, accidental disconnections do occur and the rules have been written to take this into account. If a player disconnects while they are winning, a rematch is immediately scheduled. However, if a player disconnects while drawing or losing the game, a 3-0 victory is awarded to the other player. Each player is responsible for their own connection.

2) Last man tackling
Fifa 09 is a soccer simulation and while slide tackling is encouraged when needed, intentional attempts to take out the last man (an attacking player that only has the keeper to beat) will not be tolerated. A defender is allowed to slide in from the side as there is a good chance that he will win the ball. However, when someone slides in from directly behind (from the 5-7 O'Clock positions) and the striker is between the defender and the ball, this will not be tolerated. Players like this can usually be indentified by a low foul:card ratio.

3) Settings
While this rule is unenforcable, each player is expected to have all assistance settings on default.


LIFETIME RECORD
Each player will receive a lifetime score based on their final position in their respective leagues and cups. This score is cumulative over each season.
