Question about Maternity Benefit

    Hi everyone,

I'm pregnant, I'm getting the unemployment allowance and I'm applying for the Maternity Benefit. On the form of the maternity benefit there is a part dedicated to my partner's details. The fact is that me and the baby's father are not living together.
Should I fill with his personal data or not that part of the form?

    Thanks

You should fill it in if you are putting his name on the birth cert.
Maternity benefit is not means tested,it is based on your prsi payments.

If you are out of work too long you will not qualify.

Thanks for the reply, but I probably wasn't clear on the post before.

When I've found out that I was pregnant, I was already getting the unemployment allowance. This morning I went to the health centre to apply for a buggy/cot benefit, and they told that I couldn't apply for that before the baby's birth. But the person at the desk, after verifying my PPSN on his computer, told me that I could apply for the maternity leave . Only I need is just fill a form and bringing a letter from my GP that says my duty date.

Can this maternity leave (that one that the person told me) be the maternity benefit?

The question on the post before about the part to fill is still valid.
    Thanks again.

Maternity benefit is paid out to you if you have enough qualifying PRSI contributions. Afaik your partners income has no bearing on this.

If i recall from my last maternity benefit claim they go back two years for your PRSI contributions, so for a claim in 2009 they will be looking at your 2007 employment (i think) ring up the maternity benefit section to clarify things for you.

No idea what the person who looked up your PPS number was talking about. How can you get maternity leave if you're not working? You can get the beniefit though if you have the stamps paid in the qualifying year.

    Hope it helps
