Have you tried using this serial number decoder?

have just tried that but my serial number is an 8 digit number but it tells me the number is unrecognized, i got the number by removing the neck from the body

I tried dating a fender once. It slept with me, and then never called. I was heartbroken.

Cut the neck in half and count the rings?

Dinner and a movie never fails though.

That serial number narrows it down to 1974.Would need the pot codes to make 100%.But back plate would mean 74

    A classic.

Shouldn't there be a date of manufacture at the base of the neck? Or is this just for an earlier period of production?

Date of manufacture on neck up until 1973.
