Vince McMahon vs. Dixie Carter

Vince recently commented on TNA in an interview:
"My concern with TNA is not in terms of competition. My concern with TNA is that they are TV-14, and we are PG. They have to change with the times. I think some of the things they do on television are reprehensible, but it is a TV-14 rating. That's the only bone I have to pick with them. Their TV ratings are a fraction of ours."

    To which Dixie replied:
"I think it’s wonderful that Vince watches TNA iMPACT. And I agree with him that things such as the brutal beating of a sixty-year-old man, a vicious home invasion and gratuitous man-on-woman violence can be seen as reprehensible – and that’s just the last three Monday nights."

Not a bad response from Dixie. Steel Cage match at Lockdown I say.

    Heh.

When I saw the thread title I was all geared up to ask how someone could compare the two, but there's no need thankfully :P

I gotta say, I agree with Carter on this one. She may not have the financial clout that Vince does, but she does have her head screwed on. Dixie appears to be learning, while Vince is regressing. How Vince can push his show as TVPG with the recent storylines and get away with still confuses me.

But hey, i'm only watching it again the last couple of weeks. And while I'm finding the Orton/HHH story entertaining. I sure as hell wouldn't want my kids to watch it.

It's nothing more than PR on Vince's part. Hypocritical, obviously, he also criticised the use of a baseball bat as a weapon when worse has been used on his show recently. But most people will believe what he says

He also said wwe try and use items you wouldn't find around the house, metal folding chair or the sledge hammer. Thats why he critisised use of a baseball bat that would be found in most homes in america. What about Samoa Joe using a knife? that was wrong no matter what way you look at it and it can't get much worse than that. I was surprised Vince bother to mention TNA at all, when excatly were these statements made are they from a recent interview?

I wouldn't mind if they would (or could) use the sledge properly. What really is the point of having a signature weapon if you use it in the way HHH does?

its more for the image, rather than the actual practical use of the blunt hammer.

Realistically, they are NEVER going to use that hammer properly, one wrong move and someones seriously injured.

If you apply that logic to Samoa Joe's knife wielding activities, then you might be able to see why.

Eh.. If WWE is PG now, why do they still have the disclaimer before hand... "scenes and storylines not suitable" etc?

Most PG programs dont have the need for this sort of business..

That's a good point. Maybe it's the nature of the show though- it is people fighting to resolve differences- i can see many, many sections of American parents having problems with wrestling in even it's most "family friendly" form.

    They could alter it slightly...

I believe that's a Sky procedure, and not a WWE one. I could bew rong though.

Vince has a point though. Joe going after the Main Event Mafia with some sort of blade threatening to kill them all and putting Steiner in a bandage suit is reprehensible to a company trying to present a PG show. Fair worse than anything they've done recently. The only recent man on woman violence I can remember is Santino getting beaten by Mickie

As for Dixie, she's a fool who knows very very little about wrestling. A nice person but she's still a fool

Ah yeah but he kissed her to make up for it.

Anyway, TNA want to do man on woman violence and have done it on PPVs (Sharmell and Roode), the only reason they don't do it on TV is because of Spike ban on it. Dixie doesn't seem to realise this

Worked for Chris Brown, I guess. :D
(So going to hell for that!)

Can't disagree there now that you have reminded me about the Booker/Roode angle from around this time last year. Very good point.

She just seems clueless about her product. Talking about the beating of a 60 year old man as reprehensible when they brought in a Bullet Bob Armstrong who looked in worse shape than May Young.

She's clueless about the whole business, her interview for congress showed that

Personally i think it detracts from the image if you start bringing sledges and knives to the ring. Viewers know that they're not going to be used properly and really it comes down to them taking their fans for idiots.
