Would a huge natural disaster or plague or war be a good thing for the enviornment in the long run? If some humans survived would they have learned from the mistakes we've made and establish a better society or would we be go back to the stoneage and make a balls of it again?

Oh, we'd balls it up again. Even after WW2 we've come pretty close to WW3 on more than one occasion AND we've got nukes now.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

If history has taught us one thing, its that we dont learn from history!! Which is just really stupid.

With less people I could finally achieve my goal of looking at every person who is alive on Earth without any of them dying on me before I get to see everyone

If life was wiped out right now it would only be a matter of time before another lifeform would evolve to the extent that they can exploit the earths resources to a point where this very thread will be started again.

If history has thought me one thing its that there seems to be a guy named Edmund Blackadder who looks the same, talks the same and acts the same in every period of history.

OP is from Sligo, but left. Which would give you some encouragement that mankind can indeed learn.

But he's moved to Meath, which kinda cancels that out.

Is that because the russians and chinese are so benevolent and wont behave in a way that would threaten others or damage the enviornment?

April 10th eh... least we don't have long to wait.

    I love this bit..

"The U.S. President at the time of the Warning will be, for better or worse, Hillary Clinton. Now I am not going to judge her soul, or her heart, by saying whether or not she will sincerely repent in response to the Warning. But I know that very many persons in the U.S. will repent sincerely, including many who once had an abortion, or who supported abortion. A clear majority of the nation will very quickly become pro-life. President Hillary Clinton will also change her mind and become pro-life. Perhaps she becomes pro-life out of sincere repentance, or perhaps, seeing the nation suddenly become pro-life, she will change her mind out of political expediency. I do not know which reason will motivate her (perhaps some of both).

Note updated November 30th: I believe that Hillary Clinton will become U.S. President shortly after the Warning (after April 10th, 2009). I think that this will occur as a result of political changes caused by the Warning."

    Those crazy catholics!

I'm beginning to think that a huge number of people really do think that something big is going to happen in 2012 so I wonder at what stage will people begin to say "fukit, the world is going to end, i'm gona blow all my savings on something mental and stop paying the bills"?
Or will people just stop being part of The System altogether and become anarchic, assuming that the end is nigh so they'll escape punishment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

The only reason people believe the world will end in 2012 is because taht's when the Mayan calendar runs out.
Since the calendar has actually outlasted the Mayan people think they overplanned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,368 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

It doesn't even run out, it just comes to the end of a cycle called the long count, a 26000 year cycle. There's plenty of references to dates after the end of the long count. I'd say the lunatics out there will start stirring sh!t at some stage next year and we will actually see public unrest on a large scale inside 18 months.

But getting back to the original post, I doubt that man will ever learn enough to stop making a balls of things.

Well there is a super volcano in Yellowstone park.
If it erupts then at least the east of America is instantly fecked, and the world would plunge into a year long winter, global famine, all aircraft grounded cos the ash would clog the engines etc.
It's only a matter of time.

Humans are too inherently stupid and selfish to make something like a peaceful and productive society work.

Based on carbon dating of plant material recovered from sediment deposited by the tsunami, the latest incident occurred around 6100 BC.[2] In Scotland, traces of the subsequent tsunami have been recorded, with deposited sediment being discovered in Montrose Basin, the Firth of Forth, up to 80 km inland and 4 metres above current normal tide levels.
