Looking for a helmet with an adjustable visor - know any?

***Please keep this thread a helmet-debate free zone....God knows there's been enough of those threads round these parts :D

My current helmet is due a replacement. It has a visor on the front that can be tilted upwards a bit when needed to improve visibility and when it's pulled down it helps keep rain out of the eyes.

I can find a few helmets like this one that have visors but haven't been able to confirm if any allow you to tilt the visor up. I do want to have the flexibility to get the visor up out my field of view when necessary, but I checked in Wiggle, CRC, and Cycle Superstore and they didn't have any that fit the bill.

Does anyone know of a helmet with an adjustable visor or know if it would be possible to jiggy up one of those on the sites above to make the visor adjustable?

Wear a cap underneath a helmet with no visor!

Helmet visors should only be used off road.

But was it for the visor or the black socks?

    Good point. Expect more punishment.

I was thinking of doing that - plus is it means the rain doesn't just go straight through the helmet onto the head, minus is it'd be less breathable.

I've used a visor on road for years and had no problem and like it so will probably stick with it....though the association with Lance is an unfortunate consequence :)

Why are visors for off road only? I find them useful for rainy and sunny conditions on the road and off. Surely the slight aero disadvantage is not the only reason?

    There's no technical reason :)

For the same reason that mudguards are not fashionable - the sun always shines on the Euro cyclist.

I went ahead and ordered this Giro Pneumo last night as it was the only one with an adjustable visor I could find. Bit over what I wanted to spend at €74 but it looks like a decent lid and I went for the one in white as it'll be more visible though I know I'll be open to Euro jibes as a result :o

I was dangerously close to going against the Euro grain on what a roadie should and shouldn't be kitted out with and was thinking of a full face MTB helmet for a while!

I have a Giro Pneumo bought in 2006. The visor is not adjustable. It is removable. I see the one you bought has 15 degree adjustment, which is not much.

Yeh, I checked my existing helmet and was surprised to find the visor was probably only adjustable to around 15-20 degress. It actually does make the difference I need - i.e. when head is down on the road that little bit of tilt does seem to be enough to ensure I have a good field of vision. Think this one will be ok but will wait and see...and I'll be taking my Dremel to it to get it sorted if not.
